An Arizona dad was so fed up with his 14-year-old daughter's disciplinary issues he handed the girl a gun Sunday and told her to pull the trigger, police said.
Ulys Laffette Bell IV, 38, of Fort Mohave, gave the 9mm handgun to his daughter Sunday and instructed her to commit suicide, the Mohave County Sheriffs Office said.
The teenager reported the incident Monday to school officials who informed police, 3 News Las Vegas reported.
Bell admitted to authorities he had disciplinary issues with his daughter and gave her a gun to shoot herself with, officials said. He told police the gun was not loaded at the time of the incident.
Sue Callahan, the sheriffs office spokeswoman, said officials couldn't confirm the gun was unloaded at the time of the alleged incident.
Bell was jailed on suspicion of disorderly conduct with a weapon, child abuse and endangerment.
It was not immediately known whether Bell had an attorney.

Haha! I don’t think what the father did was all that smart, but having brought up a female cub of my own, I’m not going to clutch my pearls and call it evil, either-teenage girls can make you want to check them into a psych ward for real...
My 1st hubby-cub’s dad-and I were on the way to NM one winter over the holidays-the cub pouted and acted out all the way from here to near Eldorado-after about 10PM, we were on an empty stretch of the highway, it had started to snow-hubby pulled the Suburban off to the side of the road-told the cub if she didn’t shut up the bitching, we would find some Arabs to sell her to-she was quiet until we crossed the state line and stopped for gas-but I’m sure that is called child abuse now...
When I was a kid, my mom and aunts would yell at all of us if we were being obnoxious or fighting-they would yell voy a matar-I’m going to kill you-they would be arrested now, but no one thought anything of it then...
He has crazy eyes. Teenage girls can cause that.
My Dad loved that line.
No, people with a sense of humor would say it. You should try to purchase a sense of humor somewhere before it’s too late.
My Dad would say that, along with, “Why don’t you go play in the street?” Or “Go tell your mother she wants you.”
We knew he was joking because he never gave us reason to question his love, but we also respected him when he was not joking, and loved him in return for his humor but also for his assertive use of authority, which we feared when young but used as a defense against peer pressure by the time we reached our teens- and learned to love him for that, too. He’s the best Dad any child could ever ask for.... and unlike tis guy, he only let us have guns because he knew we respected both him and the weapons.
Exactly the kind of perp who, in my view, should be tried, convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned, all within the time frame of a week.
Mine were fine. - the trick is setting boundaries very early and very often. Then when they get older they ask before they go and do things. Then it’s a matter of releasing the strictures by telling them you trust them with something.
The disappointed face was my most potent weapon. It helped my wife and I were on the same page.
He looks older than 38.
Longer I live the more I see how different the aging process is among peoples.
If they are doing that at 14, imagine having to be married to them later on.
Life hasn't been the same for Cliff the postman since Cheers went off the air ...
You had balloons? We had to beg for beans just so that we could have gas and get all bloated. Of course we were too poor to fart. Hell, I used to dream of someday being able to fart like the rich kids.
He has a teenage daughter.
Bravo ... what a comeback!
