>>Not being a student of the middle east, what’s the greater goal behind this?<<

Present the Arabs with a done deal IOT spur the “peace” process forward. Also to stick it to the Deep State at Foggy Bottom (massive Federal bottom blow needed).

IMO, Israel eventually will have to force the Arabs back into Jordan & Egypt and declare a one-state solution for disputed territories.

I believe it may resolve an issue that was a roadblock to peace negotiations.

I know the West Bank and Gaza folks won’t see it that way, but that’s okay. They’ll have to come to terms with it.

Trump wouldn’t have done this without some consultation in the region.

Saudi Arabia and other nations may have been okay with this.

Support for a Saudi/Israel working relationship may have hinged on it.

IMO, we have a much better chance for a peace agreement under Trump, than ever before. I think he would work behind the scenes on this one, to make it look like a Middle-East based plan too. That would surprise some folks who always see him as a guy who wants credit.

Here, his name being involved would make folks react negatively without even looking at the plan.

He’s a clever guy.

Not being a student of the middle east, what’s the greater goal behind this?

My uneducated guess is that it takes away a PLO bargaining chip. Gives us more and we will let you recognize Jerusalem as Capital of Israel.

Of course they never intend to follow through but just want more concessions.

It is no longer on the table.

It should have always been a simple decision based on our laws, our Constitution and international standards.

Do we recognize the state of Israel? Yes.

Is Jerusalem part of Israel, and a part the U.S. does not dispute. Yes.

Is Jerusalem the seat of the government of Israel? Yes.

Then, just to please some other middle east nations or peoples, is not a foundation for the U.S. to not recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital - which it is - or not move our embassy there (our embassies are normally in the capital of a nation).

To the Arabs. You’ve had almost 70 years to make peace with Israel. It’s about time you did.

My first vote was for Reagan in 1984. Even though Trump lost in my state, I consider my vote for him more valuable.

Although for Reagan, I got some lifelong pleasure out of it. I was in college and forgot to register for absentee. I told my instructors I was going home to vote and asked a young lady I was interested in to join me for the road trip. I drove 400 miles to vote for Reagan and ended up marrying the girl. Good all around.
