When making a decision about who to choose as his running mate, Donald Trump was concerned with potential ticket mate Mike Pence. Why? Because he thought then Governor Pence was embarrassingly poor.
Before Trump chose Pence, he sized him up over a game of golf. The Atlantic reported: Coming into the game, Trump had formed an opinion of the Indiana governor as prudish, stiff, and embarrassingly poor, according to one longtime associate."
Pence knew the (Trump politics) game and had some help from one of his longtime advisers, Kellyanne Conway.
Conway suggested Pence talk to Trump about stuff outside of politics, and to act eager to learn business from him. I knew they would enjoy each others company, Conway told The Atlantics McKay Coppins. Mike Pence is someone whose faith allows him to subvert his ego to the greater good.
In New Jersey, Pence raved about Trumps golf game and broad shoulders as Trump wavered between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the man who would become vice president.
Reportedly, campaign chairman Paul Manafort lied and said Trump's plane was broken down while the candidate was in Indiana. "With nowhere else to go, Trump accepted an invitation to dine with the Pences," The Atlantic wrote.
Three days later, he announced Pence as his running mate.
But Trump is still bothered by Pences (perceived lack of) wealth.
In January, the Pences reportedly moved some of their pets which include two cats, a rabbit and a snake into the Naval Observatory. Trump apparently thought it ridiculous.
"He was embarrassed by it; he thought it was so low class, an adviser told The Atlantic. "He thinks the Pences are yokels."
In 2016, The Wall Street Journal chronicled the Pences last decade of tax returns and found he never earned more than $200,000.
"On their most recent return, Mr. Pence and his wife, Karen, reported $113,026 in adjusted gross income, almost all from Mr. Pence's salary as governor of Indiana, according to the report.
“drewh” appears to have left the building.
I was seeing him a lot on this type of post.
Yeah, I think your right.
They want to destroy anything Trump.
So much negative chatter...
I am getting so sick and tired of all these “behind the scenes” stories from anonymous people who are supposedly in the know.
It is so encouraging to see that Hillary Clinton has found some projects to fill up all that empty time in her sunset years, like creative writing and fiction.
But I hope she turns her hand to documentary, like “The Lewinski Years, and how close Bill came to Death.”
Chris Christie would have been a complete ngihtmare
We saw Pence in person twice at rallies. He is articulate & impressive. Liberals hate him especially for being a Christian.
Yeah, the guy that scraps ringside at his casino is a pretentious dick... nice try, libtards.
Thanks for the mention.
Glad to have my assumptions confirmed.
I agree with your comments related to them not liking hes a good Christian.
I sure do.
Divisive and meant to be. The left is trying every dirty trick in the book and then some.
I worry more about people in politics who aren’t a little on the “poor” side. If they are well-to-do, it’s suspicious as to how they got the money. (If wealthy before government service, of course that’s another story.)
How fake can they go? Trump seems to judge people the way MLK exhorted us to all do - by the content of their character....
Another Liberal UK news agency spreading nonsense.
I used to work for a rather large Swiss owned chemical company. One day the entire Board of Directors, including several Swiss bankers were scheduled to tour our facility in the states. My boss, who was new to the company was asked to speak with them about something. He came to us and said he didn’t really know what to say.
I said to say “I’m Jewish and want my family’s money back.”
Hilarity ensued
Total bunk. Donald Trump has a long history of not being a snob.
Fake news.
