ABC News president excoriates staff over Brian Ross' Michael Flynn error
CNN Media ^ | December 4,2017 | Oliver Darcy and Brian Stelter

ABC News president James Goldston excoriated staff Monday over Brian Ross' major error on a report about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and announced that Ross, the network's chief investigative reporter, will no longer cover stories related to President Trump.

Goldston also told staffers that the network was conducting a "full review" of the error and its aftermath.

Ross had initially reported Friday morning that Flynn was prepared to testify that Donald Trump as a candidate had instructed him to reach out to the Russians. Ross said more than seven hours later on "World News Tonight" that his information was actually that Flynn was prepared to testify Trump made the request as president-elect. On Saturday evening, ABC News said Ross had been suspended for four weeks without pay for what it termed the "serious error."

During ABC News' morning editorial call Monday, audio of which was obtained by CNN, Goldston excoriated his staff for the error.

"I don't think ever in my career have I felt more rage and disappointment and frustration that I felt through this weekend and through the last half of Friday," Goldston said.

"I don't even know how many times we've talked about this, how many times we have talked about the need to get it right," he added. "That how we have to be right and not first. About how in this particular moment, with the stakes as high as these stakes are right now, we cannot afford to get it wrong."

Reporters need to be screened for TDS, before being allowed to cover Trump.

“The importance of getting fake news right cannot be understated !!!”

And the way you do fake news right is by doing half truths, omissions, and burying stories that don’t fit your narrative.

How about going after Joy Behar on the View ?

I am no fan of Behar, or of the harpies on the View, however no one should expect to get real information from this show. Brian Ross and ABC reported something that was not true as if it were factual news.
I'm surprised the Market reacted in the manner that it did (i.e., even if Brian Ross' story was correct - so what?), but that notwithstanding, Ross and ABC should be held accountable to the people who got burned.

ABC news must go out of business and give up their FCC approvals to broadcast. The purposeful production of fake news must have consequences.

“Why hasn’t Ross been fired?”

Well, aren’t you just a silly ninny.

Pinching your secretary’s bottom is clearly a firing offense.

But lying about the President? No problem, that’s just freedom of the press and journalistice license.

I just love it when the media says that Trump’s approval rating is in the high 30s. What the media never says is that Congress’ approval rating is in the high teens and the mainstream media’s approval is less than 10%.

Thanks Hojczyk. As others have said, it isn't about being wrong or lying, it's about getting caught doing it.
ABC News president James Goldston... announced that Ross, the network's chief investigative reporter, will no longer cover stories related to President Trump... During ABC News' morning editorial call Monday, audio of which was obtained by CNN, Goldston excoriated his staff for the error... About how in this particular moment, with the stakes as high as these stakes are right now, we cannot afford to get it wrong."
The stakes? Why, ending the Trump Presidency (or failing at it), of course.

Has ABC EVER made a ‘mistake’ on that level when it hurt a democrat?

I’ll save you the effort looking it up: the answer is NO.

If this story had been really bad news about a democrat ABC would have checked it 50 times before going on air - then they would have done their best to downplay the story. James Goldston feels shame? Good, he should.

It’s Kabuki. Ross is still an employee, which speaks volumes.

Wonder why these type of errors never benefit the Republican party?

When you are a left wing hack and you hire a bunch of unscrupulous left wing hacks to do your dirty business, encourage them to publish lies and reward them for it, eventually they will expose you and your organization....

ABC sucks.

It’s a ‘news’ network that kisses the butts of liberal elites. They’re a propaganda arm of the Democrat Party...

Anyone who think differently about ABC is a fool.
