Dem lead in generic ballot polls worries GOP
The Hill ^ | November 26, 2017 | John Kamisar

Republicans head into the holiday season with a daunting number hanging over their heads - 10.7 percent.

Democrats lead their Republican rivals by 10.7 percent on the generic congressional ballot, according to the most recent RealClearPolitics average of available polling data. That mark is the highest the RCP's average has gone since just before the 2010 elections, where Republicans netted 63 House seats.

It's a gloomy sign for Republicans, and one that dovetails with President Trump's sagging approval rating to boost Democratic optimism about taking the House and raises questions about whether Republicans will be able to take advantage of Democratic weakness on the Senate map.

"It's always stupid to make firm predictions in anything, whether it be politics or the Super Bowl. But it seems clear we are heading in a bad direction" said former Republican National Committee spokesman Doug Heye.

"What we've seen so far this year that the constant is massive Trump unpopularity, a growing unpopularity, and we are starting to see that electorally. Knowing there's never going to be a Donald Trump pivot in any sense, what would tell us that anything in this midterm is different?"

Democrats are pointing to promising results from the off-year elections earlier this month as a promising sign for 2018.

A resounding win by the Democrat in Virginia's gubernatorial race, as well as strong showings among suburban voters, topped the headlines. But there was more promise down the ballot in other states, too.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats cleaned up in most of the "collar counties" that make up the Philadelphia suburbs. Voters elected Democrats to serve on the Delaware County council for the first time since 1980. Democrats saw similar success in other nearby counties like Chester County, and local Democratic candidates specifically pointed to Trump as one reason for their success. Most of those suburbs are represented by Republicans.

Of course it does. When GOPe run as generics, why shouldn’t they lose?

BTW, Doug Heye is violently Never Trump. He famously called Trump “an abortion on the GOP” very early in the primaries on CNN. This article is a classic example of the media using a Trump hater to project their anti-Trump agenda.

Screwing over millions of middle class Trump supporters with a huge tax increase will ensure the Left wins the House in 2018, and perhaps a lot more.

If there are people in the middle class that get little tax cut or end up paying more, that’s disastrous. It’s important to make sure the middle class gets a good tax cut first, although I support lowering taxes across the board.

Oh, yeah. Bannon has thrown a curveball at the GOPe. They thought they would screw Trump over and keep their seats by being vocally critical of him. They then thought that they would allow him to lose the Presidency in 2020, let the establishment take control, and run a RINO in 2024. Bannon is holding them accountable to their promises and is forcing them to try to get something done in order to even make it to a general. The people prefer Trump the GOP Congress by large margins in polls.

Not just Florida - probably all the swing states with the working class voters like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

"Gillepse was a terrible establishments RIO candidate."

Gillespie was not enough of a Trumpster for the Trump lovers but too GOP for the Trump haters.

I didn't think that the Virginia swamp would enjoy being drained. Not surprising at all. GOP should worry, but they should always worry. I'll be concerned if Trump's approval doesn't significantly top Obama's at the same time in his first term by next summer, but not before.

The “so called” Republican Party is a “Party” in name only THUS it’s hanging by a thread for it’s existence.

IT (the party) is THUSLY today because just as communists infiltrated from North Vietnam to South Vietnam to impose their will our modern day Congressional “communists” are known as “Liberals” and they have, like the North Vietnamese taken over the Republican Party and their first order of business is to STOP Trump by any means necessary.

Roy Moore will be the beginning of the end for the “LIBERAL” (communists) Republican power base in the Senate. Over time, he will embarrass them, call them out and break their back (metamorphically speaking).

The polit Many of these do nothing Republicans in the Senate and House are quite simply democrats and what is happening is exactly what they want to happen. They are in a holding action and WAITING for re-enforcements to arrive to help them harm Trump any way they can.

Bottom line, if it is a FEDERAL ELECTION and you’re conservative, YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN. You can send your ‘message’ during the Primaries. You can even send money during the Primaries

Ditto.

A quick scan of the editorial page of this morning's local (liberal) rag almost took my breath away.

The cumulation of opinion pieces, cartoons and letters to the editor would convince someone who just woke from a coma that we're being governed by the most incompetent, hateful and stupid dictator that ever managed to defraud his way into the presidency.

That leaves me wondering if there truly is a pushback building against the president (and the Republicans), or if, as usual, the left is really overplaying their hand.

I'm hoping it's the latter,

Immigration is also killing the GOP in Virginia, just as it did in other states.

I believe that’s the idea.

I dont think your strategy is going to work.

First of all, Trump won a fair number of Democrat votes. The only existing majority in this country is a majority against population replacement, and both major parties are firmly in favor of that.

If you elect Republicans, you will be replaced. Its that simple.

The GOP has to die to allow the next thing to be born. Everything you fear about Democrats winning is 100% correct. But history has not offered us an alternative.

They waited 7 years, and Trump is literally willing to sign the proposals they campaigned on, and they can’t get it done.

Exactly right. For 5+ of those 7 years, Republicans voted overwhelmingly on the same exact bill to repeal Obamacare.

They win the White House and what do they do? They introduce a DIFFERENT bill, designed to FAIL and don't repeal Obamacare.

Truth is, Republican's don't WANT to repeal Obamacare. It's a big tax-grab and power grab, gives Washington DC more power over our lives and once DC has their hands deeper in our pockets and more power over our lives they never give either back.

And that's why Republican's will never repeal Obamacare and why they're never EVER better than the Democrats when it comes to taking more of our money and seizing more and more control over our lives.

(MIC DROP)

Taxes are the enemy, and the lifeblood of the Leftists and Statists.

“Cutting” my taxes as if it were some damned treat or special dispensation enrages me. THAT IS MY MONEY.

Cut the g-d SPENDING and choke these careerist bastards and the tax “cuts” will be easy.

By hoping for a special little favor here, or a pat on the head there, is as bad as hoping your welfare check goes up next month because you (not you) are whelping another bastard child.

“There are plenty of conservatives that didn’t even vote in the last VA election. The GOPe puts up a MAGA candidate then they will win bigly. Gillepse was a terrible establishments RIO candidate. Quit listening to MSNBC.”

So, we should just let the democrats win, because, what, they’re the lesser of two evils? I don’t think so. The distinction may be tiny in some cases, but you have to look at the war, not just the battle. If democrats gain Congress, they will make impeaching Trump Job One. They will also move to work on redistricting, bring in enough immigrants to forever change the face of the electorate, get rid of any kind of voter ID, among dozens of other nefarious moves that will ensure we never have another conservative government.
