U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Ennis, released a statement on Wednesday apologizing for a graphic nude photo of him that circulated on social media earlier this week.
"While separated from my second wife, prior to the divorce, I had sexual relationships with other mature adult women," he said. "Each was consensual. Those relationships have ended. I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down."
Barton, who announced his re-election bid earlier this month, is navigating in a political environment charged with emerging stories of sexual misbehavior in politics, in business, and in the media. The photo, which appeared on an anonymous Twitter account, set off speculation within Texas GOP circles about his political future.
In a phone interview with The Texas Tribune on Tuesday, Barton said he was deliberating that.

Ennis. Rhymes with...
Just doing the naked posting the Mexicans won’t do.
Looks like BARTON has hired a Sarah Dodd, who specializes in crisis communications in Dallas. Barton "is not resigning," Dodd says
But if she wanted him to send it and asked for it, then what?
Does this mean that people in public leadership positions are precluded from certain kinds of consensual sexual activities?
This is not a guy who should be texting nudes of himself for a whole universe of reasons, not the least of which is confirmed by looking at a picture

Funny how thats always the case. The ones running around naked are always the ones you wish would please keep their clothes on.
Funny. If someone posts a nude pic of themselves on the internet, the chance of someone coming across it randomly is millions to one. If people they know saw it will be because they showed it to at least one person.
No wonder Congress takes so much time off. Gotta recover from all the partying. Living large in the Swamp on our dimes.
The US Government is finished. Kaput. Finis. It’s time to tear it down and start all over again.
He should resign. He should have known taking photos like that was risky even though he felt frisky.
People would like to think that a Rep was smarter than that. He is a laughingstock now.
He is a fantastic argument for term limits, too-as a case manager, I’d back having every candidate for state office and higher fill out an MMPI as a condition of candidacy-it would show who would be self-absorbed and more likely to engage in inappropriate behavior in a public venue like social media...
They’ll vote for someone else IF someone runs who hasn’t shown his junk over the internet. Sadly, that’s getting harder and harder to find.
Perfect. I'm going to use this line . . . many times.
Has Mitt Romney chimed in on this latest Congress Critter?
Didnt think so.
“But if she wanted him to send it and asked for it, then what? Does this mean that people in public leadership positions are precluded from certain kinds of consensual sexual activities?”
He’s free to make whatever choices he wants to. He’s not free to expect his decisions to be devoid of consequences, nor is he free from the expectation that others will evaluate his judgment and values based on the choices he makes.
I’ve never thought he was the good ‘ol boy he pretends to be-good argument for term limits. He’s an adult and he can do high school Harry s*** for all to see if he wants to-but that doesn’t mean he should be re-elected-again...
Does this mean that people in public leadership positions are precluded from certain kinds of consensual sexual activities?

Certainly. Of course. Why is that even a question.
I can agree with this in theory.
But who among us would want or expect our private fantasies to be broadcast for the world to judge?
I don’t think I agree.
It is up to his constituents to get rid of him-he’s been there waaaay too long-otherwise he would have realized there are consequences for putting private things like your junk on social media-my neighbor’s teenage kids even know that...
