Roy Moore Says Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Has Double Standard For Him, Al Franken

Hours after news broken that a U.S. senator made inappropriate sexual advances on a woman, Alabama Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore said he is not getting the similar benefit of the doubt.

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minnesota, was accused by sports broadcaster Leeann Tweeden of groping her and kissing her aggressively when they were rehearsing a skit for a USO show in 2006. The incidents occurred two years before Franken - a former comedian - was elected to the Senate.

TV host and sports broadcaster Leeann Tweeden said she was on a USO Tour in 2006 with Al Franken – two years before the comedian was elected to the U.S. Senate - when the incident occurred. Tweed said the two were rehearsing a skit for a show when Franken insisted they practice kissing.

Moore suggested that there was a double standard for how he is being treated in the aftermath of women saying they had romantic encounters with the former Alabama chief justice when they were teens and he was in his 30s. Two of the women said Moore made unwanted sexual advances.

Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations and has said he is conducting an investigation. His attorney, at a press conference Wednesday, questioned the authenticity of a yearbook signing one of the accusers attributed to Moore and asked for the handwriting to be reviewed by an expert.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called on the Senate Ethics Committee to review the allegations against Franken.

Moore pointed out that McConnell said Moore should step aside in the Dec. 12 election against Democrat Doug Jones and that he believed Moore's accusers.

McConnell backed Moore's GOP primary runoff opponent, Luther Strange, and Moore has repeatedly called for McConnell to be stripped of his leadership duties before the allegations were made last week.

Franken issued an apology after Tweeden made her allegations in a post on the Los Angeles radio station KABC website, where she is now a morning host. He also said he would cooperate with the ethics investigation.

"Al Franken admits guilt after photographic evidence of his abuse surfaces," Moore posted on Twitter. "Mitch: "Let's investigate."

"In Alabama, ZERO evidence, allegations 100% rejected. Mitch: "Moore must quit immediately or be expelled

If Moore wins I’m gonna say now that it was Franken that got him over the hump. Thanks Al.

And it won’t cost ole Fishlips (Franken) anything! The congress has a special account funded with our taxpayer dollars! He won’t experience any backlash at all!

"Mitch! For Pete's sake, get outta bed!"

"I'm calling in sick today, Elaine!"

"Chuck's on the phone"

"What the heck does he want?"

"Nothing. He's just laughing..."

This was all we needed to know: Moore knows how to fight in the big arena.

If I were Roy Moore, I’d shut up on this one.

Huh, McConnell and the Senate decorum needs to be exposed for what it is, and Roy Moore is doing just that with this.

I’d be careful on this. McConnell would probably be happy to throw Franken under the bus if it justified keeping Moore out as well.

...Franken - a former comedian...

Al Franken was much more than "a former comedian."

Franken was the founding talent for the progressive Air America Radio Network, launched in 2003. Franken hosted "The O'Franken Factor," later renamed "The Al Franken Show" from March 2004 to February 2007.

This incident occurred while Franken was still the premier host on Air America Radio.

Has McConnell released a statement demanding the expulsion of Al Franken from the Senate?

What if Franken is forced to resign? Then what? The precedence is set. Engage in this sort of behavior and you cannot be a Senator. I just wish they could retroactively go after Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd.

Reminds me of a “Criminal Minds” episode I saw once. (think that was the show) Guy had a whole room full of adult baby furniture, toys, diapers, etc. It was gross. Like Al Franken in the diaper.

This thing happened two years before Franken was elected Senator.

What happened to the Republican opposition research during the campaign???

Remember, Franken only won through recount cheating. He would have been blown away if these allegations had come out.

If they didn’t have double standards, they’d have no standards at all.
