The 'socialist' doctor charged with cracking Senator Rand Paul's ribs in a crunching blindside tackle may have harbored a secret grudge against his GOP neighbor for spoiling his lakeside views and 'devaluing' his home, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Rene Boucher, 59, told Paul in the wake of the mauling that he hadn't been able to sell his $740,000 house for ten years because the congressman's trees were 'in the way'.
It's believed Boucher was referring to woodland at the back of Paul's property that blocks the doctor's views of the picturesque private lake that forms the centerpiece of their upscale gated community.
Friends say it could explain why the retired anesthesiologist has failed to find a buyer for his five-bedroom, 1.36-acre home which is nonetheless described on property websites as 'overlooking' the desirable water feature.
Boucher's alleged grievance was relayed to the media by another of Paul's neighbors, Alicia Stivers, the first person who saw the bloodied and dazed lawmaker after the November 3 assault in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Stivers, 54, confirmed that account to DailyMail.com this week but said she was unable to elaborate because the incident is now subject to state and potentially federal charges.
Property records confirm, however, that Democrat-voting Boucher has indeed put his house on the market five times over the past decade without success, at one point becoming embroiled in a messy lawsuit when a prospective buyer pulled the plug at the last minute.
A look at boundary maps and overhead photographs also shows many of the 'offending' trees are on Paul's land - although one realtor pal told DailyMail.com the Boucher property probably didn't sell simply because it was overpriced.

The poster was referring to a term for a small, man-made pond. When I lived in New Hampshire they were called fire ponds.
Good one.
Note to self: how much of a doctor is he if he is hawking a pain relief vest on QVC? google “therm a vest”.
Looking at the comments here, Im amazed at the number of FReepers who are falling for this FAKE EXPLANATION.
Sheesh! Me too!
The perp needs another excuse for attacking Senator Paul, other than political reasons. If it is established that he assaulted a sitting Senator for political reasons, it is a Federal crime with A LOT of jail time!
I had a mountain view obstructed by neighbors trees.
When I went to sell, I offered the neighbor to have a tree service come in and thin and remove certain trees.
He benefited from an improved mountain view also.
Simple solution if you’re willing to have the discussion.
“It’s believed Boucher was referring to woodland at the back of Paul’s property that blocks the doctor’s views of the picturesque private lake that forms the centerpiece of their upscale gated community.”
It is settled property law that no one is entitled to a view!
Any house’s value is what people are willing to pay for it - no more
He didn’t attack Paul because of any land dispute. Why are so many buying the lie that he didn’t do it purely out of liberal hatred?
So the property is advertised as overlooking the lake and probably priced like it is too, and this guy wonders why he can't sell his property.
My first real estate broker, a crusty veteran, hired me as a sales agent in 1979 and told me to remember that the only reason a property doesn’t sell is if it’s over-priced or under water. Later on in my real estate auction career, I managed to sell several parcels of underwater real estate that were parts of marina developments.
I have to agree. Their are a lot more trees in the way than those on Rand Paul’s lot. The guy is just a nut job. I also agree that if you cannot sell your house in 10 years then you are asking too much for it.
Some people are so blinded by greed, common sense and business sense are lost.
Recently,I was interested in a seven acre piece of land, with some nice views. Price was 199K. I liked it but my wife pointed out some of the negatives.I kept talking with the seller. Then suddenly he said, "out of courtesy he was letting me know the price was going up in a week, to 207K. However, the price was still 199K for the next week. I instantly recognised the squeeze play, he was attempting.
Well, I've watched the price go from 199K, to 207K to 220K and the lastest price is 283K. Clearly, he's lacking business sense.
I guess this guy's theory is, if something doesn't sell, the price is too low.
That’s no Lake.
In Tejas we call that a “tank”
He’s lying. It has nothing to do with trees. It has everything to do with their respective political ideologies.
I’m not buying the “trying to sell the house” story for a minute.
If he can’t sell the house it probably is way overpriced.
Looks like he’s got enough trees of his own that would block any view.
Maybe everyone knows about the demons of stupidity that haunt that particular piece of property and could possess future occupants.
“...he hadn’t been able to sell his $740,000 house for ten years because the congressman’s trees were ‘in the way’.”
Bull sh!t. It’s Bowling Green, KY. No one is gonna buy that house for that kind of money.
The good Senator has the smallest house on in the gated community it seems. Definitely the smallest that backs up to the lake. The Socialist Dr is on the corner lot with TWO properties separating him and the lake. His house is worth 550-600 methinks. He’s crazy at 750-850m asking price. If he were smart (which he isn’t because he’s liberal), I’d sell that sucker for 500m to free up some funds for my lawyers.
And unprovoked attack like this could happen at any time.
This attacker needs to be kept behind bars.
This IS NOT some class four attack.
This was an attempt to inflict severe physical harm. Six broken ribs, lungs bruised, this guy nearly killed Paul here.
This perp should not be allowed out on bail, and he should spend at a minimum, then years in prison.
