(2) Yes, the Saudis paid American politicians a lot of money.***
But the reality is that this was a protection racket run by American politicians.

(3) Why do you suppose the next king is cutting off the funds?
Because the money was being EXTORTED.

(4) The Saudis weren't BRIBING our politicians.
The Saudis were paying our politicians to not mess up Saudi Arabia.

(5) In exchange for this protection money, Saudis with extremist views were allowed to provide the curricula for Muslim schools.
But.

(6) The money was to make sure that our politicians didn't do things that threatened Saudi national security.

(7) The common perception of Saudi Arabia is people with so much money that they're safe from everything.
In reality, the Saudis were so vulnerable that they agreed to demands made by the radicals who seized the Grand Mosque in 1979.

(8) NOW, the Saudis have the ability to STOP paying the protection money, which is why the Crown Prince is doing so.
In the past, Saudi Arabia was in many ways an American protectorate.
This isn't a healthy relationship.

(9) In August of 2015, General Anwar Eshki gave a long interview to the Wall Street Journal. HE laid out everything that Saudi Arabia would do.
And the Saudis are DOING what the general said they'd do.

(10) The general said that the Middle East will no longer be a place where world powers use proxies against each other.
Saudi Arabia will be a friend to the US, Russia, and China.

(11) Unspoken by the general but DEFINITELY implied was, "The US will no longer dictate to Saudi Arabia."
Because that's what we did. THEY didn't control us; WE controlled them.

(12) The Saudi Crown Prince is going to lead the ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST into an era of self-sufficiency and stability.
They won't choose sides. They won't allow us to force them to do so.

(13) "Realpolitik" is heartless.
The US must never again be heartless...

Trump Meeting with Modi

Returning to the room where he had hosted Shinzo Abe and Malcolm Turnbull this morning, Trump welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.

Hes become a friend of ours, Trump said of Modi. A great gentleman doing a fantastic job in bringing around lots of factions in India, bringing them all together. Thats what I hear, and thats good news. A lot of good reports coming out of India .

Trump then pivoted to his travels, noting, Were rounding the turn for our last couple of stops. Its been a great 12 days. Weve had 12 days. I dont know how many youve had, he said, turning to Modi.

The prime minister murmured something that was inaudible to the pool.

Trump reiterated that the trip was good not only for the United States but for the world. A lot of elements were solved, or in the process of being solved, he said.

Modi then spoke briefly through an interpreter, saying he was very happy to meet Trump again.

The relations between India and the United States are growing very rapidly, with a great deal of speed, and theyre getting deeper and more comprehensive, he said. We are working together for the future of Asia, and for humanity as a whole in the world.

Modi added that wherever Trump has traveled, when the subject of India came up, he has expressed a very high opinion of India.

With that, pool was ushered out of the room.
