The best thing here is for the GOPe to nominate 36 potential candidates for the position to ensure a swift defeat.
My question is who will replace him and is his district solid Republican?
Trump needs to have a plan to make as certain as he can that these people leaving can be successfully replaced with people who will support the Trump agenda. Steve Bannon needs to be supported in his efforts at crafting a GOP that will work WITH the president.
For all the GOP’s flaws, it’s good to see them holding to their promise to limit committee leadership positions to six years. That’s what’s driving a number of these retirements on the GOP side of the aisle next year. Once they’re no longer chairing a committee they don’t want to go back to being just regular House members.

The new GOPe (Goofy OLD Pansy eccentrics) party is going into the dustbin as it well should. Only not fast enough. The changes and delays in what needs to be done for this country haven’t moved fast enough either. Meanwhile the wasted opportunities along the way have cost them NOTHING! Healthcare, secure borders, tax reform . . . nothing. They would rather fold the tent and go home . . . the problem I have with that is they want sit on their collective do nothing butts until their terms are up (rather than leave now) and perpetuate the filibuster against achievement in the meantime. Somebody realized that he did not want to fight that hard and possibly lose in 2018 to some no-name democrat after all of the Virginia losses on Tuesday. It might be a problem to hold that seat, but I bet a couple of the local state Delegates are thinking about running for it.

He should’a been term limited out eleven terms ago. Then he could have run for senate, done that twice if he won, then returned to his civilian occupation living under the laws he helped pass.
