At a sentencing that took only minutes, the military judge, Col. Jeffery R. Nance of the Army, also reduced Sergeant Bergdahls rank to private and required him to forfeit $1,000 a month of his pay for 10 months. Prosecutors had sought 14 years in a military prison.
President Trump, who has labeled Sergeant Bergdahl a dirty rotten traitor, quickly criticized Fridays sentence, calling it a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military.
God Bless President Trump.
I bet he gets a $1,000,000+ book deal.
and who do you speculate would pass such an order to him?
No it won't, Bradley Manning comes to mind.
TV appearances, magazine interviews, potential book then movie offers.........
The leftists will put this traitor in the high life within a couple of years.............
Manning got a few TV appearances when released. It all dried up soon after. Even Harvard didn't want him.
Never went all the way with the sex change, the taxpayers were paying for his hormone therapy...Until the Dishonorable Discharge kicked in and he had to try to pay it himself.
That POS Nance should be forced to explain himself to the families of the soldiers killed while searching for the worthless waste of skin Bergdahl.
Bergdahl deserved more but the judge tried to achieve something of a balance a balance, considering the deserter’s captivity with the Taliban as serving time (albeit his own fault). And attached to the dishonorable discharge is a powerful stigma.
Amen best POTUS ever
There is no punishment anymore none! bill and Hillary are still walking the streets
This will hurt troop morale.
When I was on active duty (some 5 decades ago) we had some appropriately descriptive expletives for just such a traitorous scoundrel and just such a squish of a judge. I choose to choose G-rated words now, but the troops will offer some color commentary among themselves.
This will hurt morale.
And a job as a correspondent on CNN or MSCBS
“On the plus side, a dishonorable discharge will pretty much ruin his life and future.”
Ordinarily. But Bergdahl is now a celebrity with a book & movie deal he’ll never have to work a day in his life. Heck, he’ll probably get a visiting professorship as some liberal university.
A $10,000 fine is less than what you get for your first drunk driving conviction.
Perhaps in a letter from his muslim father who had been talking with his buddy Obama.
Right now this thing is sitting on about $300,000 in accumulated pay and allowances that was not forfeited and will be allowed to pay his puny fine company he is yet to receive. OMG!!! That fine is less than the attorney’s fees many people have to pay to handle a drunk driving bust and he’s not spent a day in jail.
Have you served in the military? If you have, you must know military justice is not civilian justice. Discipline cannot be just an idea in the military. It is FOUNDATIONAL. Without it the will to fight, to protect, to win, is lost.
It is not about striking a gd balance in sentencing this deserter. The prosecutor did not ask for execution nor life in prison. Fourteen years was his recommendation. An entirely reasonable sacrifice given what this soldier has already cost our country.
He deserted his unit. During war, in the theatre
This "balance" will cost our military in fateful ways. It is devastating to morale and respect and trust.
I am dumbstruck by this sentence. And genuinely alarmed.
Wasn’t one of the soldiers who was sent to find the traitor shot in the head and is no longer able to stand, walk, nor speak? What about other soldiers injured in attempts to rescue him?
I saw the military needs to put him on a C-130 and fly him back to Afghanistan, dropping his ass out of the plane w/o a parachute.
Mark
I've got a rusty knife out in the garage Manning can have.
Mark
Total disgrace!
We finally have a COMMANDER IN CHIEF who tells it like it is. Anti-military judges need to be weeded out of the system.
