Bowe Bergdahl Gets Dishonorable Discharge; Trump Calls Sentence a ‘Disgrace’
New York Times ^ | Nov. 3, 2017 | Richard A. Oppel Jr.

Posted on 11/03/2017 2:43:55 PM PDT by DallasBiff

At a sentencing that took only minutes, the military judge, Col. Jeffery R. Nance of the Army, also reduced Sergeant Bergdahl’s rank to private and required him to forfeit $1,000 a month of his pay for 10 months. Prosecutors had sought 14 years in a military prison.

President Trump, who has labeled Sergeant Bergdahl a “dirty rotten traitor,” quickly criticized Friday’s sentence, calling it “a complete and total disgrace to our Country and to our Military.”

Nope - he'll be the media darling raking in all sorts of money; the MSMLSD will be tripping all over themselves drooling for the opportunity to interview him - for a substantial remuneration.

From earlier: So this piece of excrement who said the Taliban treated him better than he receives in the US despite the fact that he's responsible for the deaths of five of his squad plus their search dog, received as a hero by 0bama and gets basically a walk. His ten grand fine will be made up the first time he appears on The View and get multiple requests from liberals to give speeches on how he hates America. He should looks both ways before crossing the street; just a safety note.

Desert during Deployment now OK by claiming Mental Issues.

A Get out of Doing You Duty and Commitment card while under pressure.

I suspect a Progressive/Libtard decision.

The life that the dishonorably discharged Bergdahl intends to live from here on out, will be in no way impacted. He never expected to hold down a steady job, buy a home, or make legitimate investments in anything.

But he will be a great marcher in the minions that George Soros sends into college campuses everywhere across the US & A.

Didn’t happen to Bradley Manning.

Uncle Sam is no longer paying for the hormone therapy.

And even Harvard revoked his invitation to visit the Kennedy School of Government.

Canada won’t let him in either. There goes that option for someone else picking up the bill for that sex change.

And he probably won’t even have to complete his education to get a professorship at an ivy league university.

This is a whitewash to protect the legacy of one Barack Obama. If they had given him jail time, it would have looked bad for Obama, so they softened it by not giving him jail time. During wartime, the second world war for example, he would have been executed. Today he walks. What a farce.

I don’t care what he is, I just want to scrape him off the figurative bottom of my shoe.

The scumbag is a dirty rotten traiter. My opinion, he should face a firing squad.

After saying he would use trumps words as mitigating factors..I am not sure why people believe he didnt after this sentence

$10k fine and $300k in back pay. It’s a joke

I am not so sure about the back pay. Since he entered a plea of guilty for desertion, the time he remained away should be classified as lost time and not be credited for pay or any other purpose. Since he was promoted upon return based on time in grade, that promotion should be voided also. Pay and promotion would be administrative issues and not subject to the whim of this judge.

Name of the Judge: Col Jeffrey Nance

When I do a search on the judge, only his name and rank are revealed. No other biographical information. Hmm.

The 6 U.S. Soldiers Who Died Searching for Bowe Bergdahl...

Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen, 29, of San Antonio, Texas, and Private 1st Class Morris Walker, 23, of Chapel Hill, N.C., were killed by a roadside bomb in Paktika province on Aug. 18, 2009, while trying to find Bergdahl. Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss, 27, of Murray, Utah. 2nd Lt. Darryn D. Andrews:

On Sept. 4, 2009, Private 1st Class Matthew Martinek, 20, of DeKalb, Ill., was seriously wounded in Paktika province when Taliban forces attacked his vehicle with an improvided explosive device, a rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire...Like Bergdahl, Bowen, Walker, Curtiss, Andrews and Murphrey, Martinek was part of the 4th BCT.

2nd Lieutenant Darryn Andrews, 34, of Dallas, Texas, died Sept. 4 in Paktika Province when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device and a rocket-propelled grenade. Like Bergdahl, Bowen, Walker and Curtiss, Andrews was part of the 4th BCT.

Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss, 27, of Murray, Utah, died Aug. 26 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he was shot while his unit was supporting Afghan security forces during an enemy attack. Like Bergdahl, Bowen and Walker, he was part of the 4th BCT.

Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey, 25, of Snyder, Texas, died Sept. 6 in Paktika province after being wounded by an IED. Like Bergdahl, Bowen, Walker, Curtiss and Andrews, Murphrey was part of the 4th BCT.

(The diversion of these men) and their units to the hunt for Bergdahl thinned the ranks of U.S. troops elsewhere in the region, contributing to several more American KIAs, U.S. soldiers who were there at the time believe.

Military justice can be swift and merciless, although that appears unlikely in this case. But the past cannot be erased, and it’s that legacy that gives the troops involved a markedly different view of Bergdahl and his rescue than that of most Americans sitting at home, paying scant attention to the nation’s only soldier missing in action in Afghanistan until Saturday.

The reason, for anyone who has been in combat, is pretty simple. Soldiers never forget. Civilians rarely remember. This civilian will never forget.

Military has gone soft .. there was a time when looking at the brig and what it represented, kept many a soldier from making these kind of serious errors in judgment. Facing a military justice used to be feared.

I’ve been wondering if he was told to leave camp and get himself “captured” in order to give Obama the excuse to trade the five bad guys for him.
