The suspect told police ‘give me a lawyer dog.’ The court says he wasn’t asking for a lawyer.

When a friend says, “I’ll hit you up later dog,” he is stating that he will call again sometime. He is not calling the person a “later dog.”

But that’s not how the courts in Louisiana see it. And when a suspect in an interrogation told detectives to “just give me a lawyer dog,” the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled that the suspect was, in fact, asking for a “lawyer dog,” and not invoking his constitutional right to counsel. It’s not clear how many lawyer dogs there are in Louisiana, and whether any would have been available to represent the human suspect in this case, other than to give the standard admonition in such circumstances to simply stop talking.

Criminal scumbag?

He was only convicted on evidence gathered from interrogation after his right to counsel was blatantly ignored.

I hope the system comes down hard on you some day, maybe then you’ll understand that THEY WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHTS AT ANY TIME IF IT SUITS THEM.

Yea, he wanted a lawyer and his right to counsel was blatantly ignored.

You have zero rights when they decide your “rights” are inconvenient for them.

The police purposefully used bad grammar as well. It should read. “This is how I feel. If ya’all think I did it, I know that I didn’t do it, so why don’t you just get me a lawyer, dog?”

“So why don’t you just get me a lawyer” That’s the key phrase there. The rest of the sentence is fluff. He asked for a lawyer clear as day.

They purposefully and willfully ignored his request, changed up the grammar to make it look good for them, found judges that would back them up, then convicted him, made him a sex offender, and sent him to prison.

Police are trained in AAVE, those guys deal with this slang every single day. They knew what he wanted, but they got what they wanted, a conviction. That’s all they ever want and they’ll go to hell and back to convict you even if innocent.

It’s really convenient that the article didn’t include his “incriminating statements”, probably because there weren’t any.

These rights only exist to give you an illusion of freedom and protection from the government, once they are inconvenient to them they disappear. This is just another case in point.

I see blatant disregard for peoples constitutional rights every day by the judicial system in America. They trample everyone equally at least.

You know what it’s all about? It’s all about money. There is so much funding for cops, prosecutors, prisons, states, education, etc. Every time they send someone to prison. Innocent or guilty. Not to mention all the career opportunities for nasty cops , prosecutors and judges like these. All the good cops go along to get along with the meat-eaters. Nobody wants to be a “rat.”

It’s not “jive”, it’s an English dialect.

You may not like it. I don’t like Old English, I think they use some really stupid phrases. I don’t like North Dakotan slang. I don’t like “jive” slang either. But it is a legitimate English dialect and the police involved in this deal with it every day.

I don’t want a boot on my neck, but it’s there. It’s on your neck too and they’ll press it down whenever they feel like it. Free thinkers know it. Sheep don’t.

Excellent analysis there.

You don’t understand that it doesn’t matter if he’s a scumbag or not.

He still has rights as an American citizen.

I don’t care about what he is or isn’t. I care that his rights were blatantly violated.

Well maybe he , won’t make the same mistake again. nope he will not make the same mistake again, and actually ask for a lawyer in the correct way, and take the process more serious.
