WASHINGTONTexas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz warned Tuesday that the United States would face massive economic costs if President Donald Trump killed the North American Free Trade Agreement but that Trump might go ahead and make that decision.
Cruz said NAFTA has created millions of jobs across the United States, and he said Texans believe in international trade. He expressed concern that Trump, whom he generally supports, would seek to use the ongoing NAFTA renegotiation to reduce trade and erect protectionist barriers rather than to expand trade.
Reducing access to the Canadian and Mexican markets, Cruz said, would do profound damage to the American economy and to Texas in particular.
Which direction will the administration go? I will tell you candidly: I dont know, Cruz said at the pro-NAFTA U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. His comments highlight the uncertainty surrounding Donald Trumps intentions.

Certainly the consumer is not determented. Free trade is the consumer's friend and raises their standard of living. Don't see a whole lot wrong with that. The only ones that suffer are special interests protected by government. Special interests hurt our economy as much as any other factor.
Free trade in no way threatens a nations borders or sovereignty and it strengthens a nations’s economy more than any other factor.
M not so sure about this. I have literally transported car parts made in Mexico, for delivery to Canada for production. How,many Americans could have been paid to fabricate the parts and assemble the vehicle.
Americans Citizens are, last in line for jobs and everything else. Its not just hafta, it’s over regulation and union.
Unions can go away, they are so 1940.
Well, being Canadian and all; plus his teddy bear give away to illegals, he obviously doesn’t want to MAGA.
Repeating meaningless slogans is like singing advertising jingles. It’s boring and stupid.
I think we have to run trade deficits so other countries can obtain a surplus of dollars in order to trade for commodities-oil specifically because US dollars (petrodollars) are required for purchasing ARAB oil and the only way to get US dollars is to sell more stuff to us than we sell to you. So long as we wish to remain the default global reserve currency, we have to live with this but I’m not sure that that means that endless trade deficits are always gong to be a good thing for us as making things and selling them for a profit is the backbone of any economy.
These guys are full of little sayings and jingles not unlike the whole Leftist shtick.
Good post. One of the things I’ve learned over my years of doing business is that there is an upside and a downside to almost every conceivable condition one comes across in economics ... high tax rates vs. low tax rates, strong currency vs. weak currency, high commodity prices vs. low commodity prices, etc.
so sayeth Ted the Tool! This guy is such an embarrassment! And to think he could have been our president! Thank you Donald Trump!
If this is the case, then he’s re-leaving himself on US. US, we’re the ones getting soaked.
The best arguments are that anti-NAFTA folk are leftists. The NeverTrumpers in my NormieBook try to pull that crap. One thing in common amongst them all is they seem to be either Jewish/Atheist or the type of Whites who can’t bench press my IQ.
Their memes are weak too and it’s hilarious watching them still use Drumpf... Honestly I’ve sent a couple PMs and asked how they support such reckless faggotry. I don’t get why they want to defend multinationals, am I supposed to be a corporate whore? I make a cushy mid 6-figure salary but when some HR twit starts talking about diversity I want to pull my hair out. These folks impose leftism for everything, and attempt to force us to work with people who’ve only recently figured out the wonder that is a toilet.
Good old Ross.
