Fort Bragg, North Carolina (CNN)Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl teared up at his sentencing on Monday as he apologized to service members who searched for him after he deserted his outpost in Afghanistan in 2009.

"My words can't take away what people have been through," Bergdahl, 31, told an audience at his court martial that spilled into an overflow room. "I am admitting I made a horrible mistake."

Bergdahl pleaded guilty October 16 to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. His lengthy testimony began after the presiding judge rejected his attorneys' request to dismiss the case over President Trump's criticism of him during his campaign for the White House.

Boo-hoo! He willingly deserted and joined the enemy and now we are supposed to feel sorry for him?

Sure, right after his execution.

I also think that he is lying about the captivity and torture he suffered from the Taliban.

Too choreographed and theatrical. Fix is in, IMO. He’s going to get a very light sentence.

To an extent. I’m sure they tortured him a little bit when he was first taken. I’m sure some of it was done as a cover, meaning he was a willing participant in the event that he was recovered and they US didn’t realize he defected. Like a Manchurian Candidate.

"He’s going to get a very light sentence."

I don't think so. He's going to Leavenworth for at least 10 years, if he gets off easy.

Yep, that’s what all the tears about - at his SENTENCING hearing - what a coincidence.

He was “captive” for five years, what did they do to him that entire time? He came out fine, well fed. Care to explain that?

Can't help but notice that he didn't apologize for squat when our Communist in Chief first brought his sorry ass back to the US.

If it were up to me, I would hang him from a lamppost in Washington DC.

A firing squad is too honorable for this scumbag, and since he won’t be hanged like he deserves, I hope the inmates in Leavenworth know exactly who he is, and treat him to proper care.

Nothing to explain, he was and is a traitor. I’m just explaining why he may have been “tortured” at some point. I’m sure the Taliban wasn’t all open arms when they first got him.

What did Obama say about him?

How did Obama try to make him out?

Obama was horrible. Horrible. Tried to force Bergdahl as a hero to us.

No one has received more than a 24 month sentence for desertion since 9/11.

Bergdahl maybe the 1st to get more but don’t count on it.

That Dishonorable Discharge will follow him for a long time though.

The judge will give the dirt bag credit for “time served” as a “POW.” I have zero confidence in the PC Army to do the right thing. The progressives have totally corrupted its leadership.

F U Bowe Bergdahl. Too little and too late plus he does not really mean it. Toss his arse in prison for at least ten years. He will like “taking it” there.

Doubtful; it would not surprise me if he made a speech at the DNC in 2020. They love his type... Traitors have to support each other.

Too little, too late.

Wasn’t there at least one soldier killed looking for him? Working on a tablet with sticky keys, will try to look it up.
