With the first indictment looming from the federal Trump-Russia investigation, President Donald Trump is getting a reminder: His pardoning pardons can’t fix everything.
“I don't think the president's power is all that absolute, as people have been suggesting,” California Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, told ABC News’ “This Week” Sunday.
“The president cannot pardon people if it's an effort to obstruct justice, if it's an effort to prevent Bob Mueller and others from learning about the President's own conduct. So, there are limitations.”
Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who has been investigating the Trump campaign’s potential Russia ties, is expected to unseal his first criminal charges as early as Monday.
Schiff said he has not been told who will be hit by the indictments, but he believes based on press reports that it will either be former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort or former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Both men resigned from their positions after controversy over their ties to foreign governments, which Mueller has been scrutinizing.
If Trump tries to pardon whoever faces charges, he could several major hurdles.
The Constitution allows the president broad powers to pardon people for “Offenses against the United States." There is no precedent for a sitting president pardoning people tied to his campaign, as will likely be the case for Mueller’s debut indictment.

There is no limit as to the power of the President when it comes to Pardoning Powers. That is Constitution 101 stuff.
The President’s power to pardon is absolute. The constitution places no check on it.
Sorry, but the president can pardon anyone he jolly well pleases.
The power of the president to pardon people is unlimited, except
that he cannot pardon himself from an impeachment.
That power was made unlimited because the Founders knew that political factions might try and use the legal system to suppress their enemies;
and so they might be thwarted by the pardon power.
If the people, through their representatives in the House, objected, they could impeach the president — fire him; but not jail him, because he could even pardon himself.
A bad man in office might be got rid of; but no faction would ever have the power to use the legal system to suppress its enemies.

This piece is mistaken. The pardon power is a check to judicial or prosecutorial overreach.
Pardons do not have limits.

Every pardon obstructs justice - they are intended to put an end to a criminal prosecution of threat thereof.
Our votes simply don't matter anymore. Therefore, it's time to resort to the other box....

“The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”
What this means is that POTUS can pardon anyone, except he cannot pardon a Judge who is being impeached by Congress.
Where Congress has jurisdiction to impeach, he cannot pardon.
Meaning also he cannot pardon himself from impeachment and removal.
Yet lefty dimwits think it reaches to anyone associated with a Special Investigation if there is potential of leading up to POTUS.

Flynn is a military hero. You’re going to stop the president from sparing him a criminal prosecution? I don’t think Trump will pardon him but this shows you the creeps assembled by Mueller, they would cause a Constitutional crisis by being the ones to violate the law of the land.
Show it to us in a legal, constitutional document or shut the BLEEP up!
But I don’t think he will want to pardon Hillary, or Obama.
