Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

“I expect Mueller to indict Manafort here shortly just to distract everyone”
Bingo.
Same. I think Rudy would have been very good in the position.
>>now the real collusion between hill/bama and Putin is uncovered all of a sudden the Mule team comes up with charges of their own.
******************************************************
Remember when the Monica Lewinsky affair blew up, the MSM created the Thomas Jefferson - Sally Hemmings FICTIONAL story, which was designed to distract and dilute the Oval Office shenanigans.
Yes, their plays are so obvious.
From the report we found out that the investigation was supervised by then-U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein, who is now President Trumps Deputy Attorney General, and then-Assistant FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who is now the deputy FBI director under Trump. We also know that Robert Mueller was the Head of the FBI at this time and he even hand delivered uranium to Russia on an airport tarmac before the Uranium One deal went through.
Obviously, all of this is very corrupt the phony special investigation of President Trump, the appointment of Mueller by Rosenstein, the FBI investigation in 2009 that was hidden from Congress, the press and all Americans which involved with real collusion with Russia by the Obama Administration and the Clintons.
Now we find something startling. It appears that the special investigation created by crooked Rosenstein and his appointed special counsel crooked Robert Mueller is not legal!
According to Cornell Law Schools presentation of the Legal Code 28 U.S. Code § 592 Preliminary investigation and application for appointment of an independent counsel states
(1)Application for appointment of independent counsel. The Attorney General shall apply to the division of the court for the appointment of an independent counsel if
(A)
the Attorney General, upon completion of a preliminary investigation under this chapter, determines that there are reasonable grounds to believe that further investigation is warranted; or
(B)
the 90-day period referred to in subsection (a)(1), and any extension granted under subsection (a)(3), have elapsed and the Attorney General has not filed a notification with the division of the court under subsection (b)(1).
In determining under this chapter whether reasonable grounds exist to warrant further investigation, the Attorney General shall comply with the written or other established policies of the Department of Justice with respect to the conduct of criminal investigations.
As noted above Rosenstein was in his job less than a month when he set the special counsel up and he did so with no preliminary investigation that was ever stated as part of the reasoning for setting up the investigation. If Rosenstein did set up the special counsel based on any work from the previous FBI Director Comey, then the investigation is tainted as we also know now that Comey committed crimes for leaking classified information to the press based on his own sworn testimony.
Rosenstein and Muellers special investigation is not legal. It is not based on the law. It is a fraud.
Rosenstein and Muellers special investigation is not legal. It is not based on the law. It is a fraud.
Update Comments noted below suggest that a different statute to reference is 28 CFR Part 600 which does not carry the above wording related to preliminary investigations. However, it does state that that Attorney General or Acting Attorney General has other options than to set up a special prosecutor (such as perform a preliminary investigation). Also, the special prosecutor is to be a lawyer with a reputation for integrity and impartial decision making. Clearly, something Mueller is not. Also, another comment notes that Mueller has an unlimited budget, legions of lawyers and a limitless jurisdiction. All of these items add up to a corrupt investigation being performed by corrupt individuals.
You gotta wonder what goes through his mind sometimes!!You don't recuse your self and give over the reigns of authority to the cabal.Makes no sense at all.
All these damned departments approved it.
I think the game here for the Mule team to claim a law has been broken has always been to set perjury traps for anyone who will fall into them with the possible exception of Manafort who well may have some jeopardy without a perjury trap.
Exactly sure looks that way.
The bigger problem I see is that we have no idea who really runs the investigation in the background. If it’s the same people who devise Vegas,Orlando,Charlottesville,BLM, and the rest look for massive lies mixed in with sprinkles of truth. That way they capture every headline everywhere until the lies are acknowledged.By then the next op will be ready.
We have been played for a long, long time now.
That i would believe.
Raised rabbits for fur and cacciatore when I wuz but a we lad...
Manafort is my guess, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was completely unrelated to the campaign.
From John Solomons report we find out that the investigation was supervised by then-U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein, who is now President Trumps Deputy Attorney General, and then-Assistant FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who is now the deputy FBI director under Trump.
In order to protect Hillary Clinton, the FBI and DOJ were both involved in a cover-up. Even worse, Loretta Lynch and her goons threatened the FBI agent
As previously reported, not only was the FBI informant working on the Russian bribery case threatened by the Obama administration, he was blocked by the DOJ under then-AG Loretta Lynch from testifying to Congress.
..............
Here is the problem. If we know McCabe, the Mule team and Rosenstein are all dirty than we would be naive to think that Trump does not know the same. Historically, has been five steps ahead of many of us. I am starting to wonder if he isn't five steps ahead of us on this as well.
If you are President and your DOJ recuses himself and leaves the dept. headed by Deep Staters,it makes no sense whatsoever unless something else is in the mix.
With Trump I'm betting on something else in the mix. I don't know what but that's my guess.
He's too smart to let the gators take charge in the swamp that is the DOJ.
Yessir I would believe it. In my younger days ran hog dogs for farmers in their maize and corn fields at night. Hogs would get so thick in these that when we were in there during a chase we would be getting bumped from all side by hogs and we are talking thousands of acre fields. We would herd the hogs up into a netting wire fence and have at them with ARs after we drug our dogs off of them. We would kill 50, 100s a night. Then come back 2-3 nights later and repeat.
Special as in retarded special?
Or the indictment doesn't relate directly to Trump colluding with Russians so they don't have to waste a source by leaking.
Manafort would be my guess. Law enforcement doesn't go on a no knock raid early in the morning for fishing expeditions. They must have had something on the guy that merited a search warrant.
Thanks - I’m betting on Maniford...
Agreed 100%.
Manafort and Flynn
