Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

Brown brown grass of home
Down the road I looked and here come Scooter finally clear of the prosecutor.
This would be like Mueller according to his reputation. Hit Trump where it hurts the most - his family.
Try to force him to resign? God. I hope not.
Well, if you have evidence that the name was leaked, then a felony has been committed, and you are obligated to report it to the authorities.
I would bet that the target knows already. In fact, I would suspect that in the Whitehouse right now they are trying to figure out what to do.
The media is acting like they know who it is, or at least a slate. Remember, the deep state WORKS with them. Or rather the media works for the deep state.
The other thing is that if someone leaks it from the Trump side, that is another charge to throw at them. The point is they are trying to get a reaction out of the Trump admin.
They are plotting to do something to move the Dossier crimes from the headlines. It will be something thin made to look like a giant killer. Mark my words. The plot thickens.
The Beltway works for itself. It works for its members, its interest, and its own survival.
If that means attacking someone politically, so be it.
Look at where they are located. Look at the beliefs, backgrounds, and behaviors of the people who work there. To get ahead, you have to play dirty. That is why the political police are dirty, they have to be.
Heck, the FBI was since HOOVER.
Hard proof? No.
A pattern? A standard set of behavior? Yes.
I drink with lawyers. This is not a new tactic. It is often used to smoke out potential targets, or to get one to do something stupid.
Ugh... thanks..
I’m still trying to catch up on this thread!!!!! :)
“Why do you think they know who the person is? The indictment is sealed.”
You mean Mueller & his special counsel doesn’t know who they recommended for indictment?
I wish
Ratchet up the pressure to see what shakes. You can bet weissman used that tactic when taking on mobsters
I’m telling you, if the entire media has been given the name, there is no way this thing does not break before Monday.
On the one hand you (rightfully) condemn the media as corrupt, but on the other hand you sure put a lot of stock in their integrity thinking nobody would possibly leak the name before Monday.
Stop assuming the absolute worst — and stay away from razor blades! — at least until Monday when we know what’s really going on.
yet somehow, Trump is being investigated...for what?....what exactly did he do?...
shut...up....loser...
I was responding to the guy who is convinced that the name has been given to CNN.
The special counsel has been leaking like a sieve since its inception. Why would today be any different?
FBI Anon saying Hillary is going to be arrested next Monday:

Yes, grain of salt. FBI Anon, 4chan. Could be b.s. But it’s making the net rounds...
Sessions is still doing the job like everyone on the other side is honest. He gives the other side the benefit of any doubt and proceeds to stall. How Trump can stand to wait him out on anything, is beyond me.
He has known 1 1/2 to 2 years about the FBI informant who infiltrated the Russian network buying influence in the uranium sale. he was sworn to secrecy about it by someone.
Strikes me as typical Republican wishful thinking that “we’ll bring it up before the 2018 election and it will destroy the Democrats.” Rather than performing a legitimate investigation using little things like grand juries.
I don’t think it has a thing to do with the Russia collusion investigation by Mueller, which will take real scalps and destroy the Republicans in 2018.
I really debated putting a sarcasm tag on my post. But getting someone to flip out was probably worth leaving it off.
