Washington (CNN) A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

If it’s somebody associated with the Clintons CNN wouldn’t even have reported it.
He will arrest Manafort and then propose a deal to him to let him off if he will testify for a Trump/Russia collusion.
He has to do this to distract attention away from Clinton/FusionGPS.
How can you have manafort and not podesta they were working together
Yep that’s my point..if it were someone associated with the Clintons/Obamas NO WAY would CNN have reported it they wouldn’t even have the info..it would have been passed along to Sean Hannity or Judge Jeanine
Mueller was appointed to find something on President Trump, and true to his slimy dem DC swamp roots, hell come up with something whether it is true or not.
I’ve been around the type of aggressive federal prosecutors Mueller employed. These guys are glory seeking scalp hunters and they routinely over charge. This was plainly timed to deal with the calls for Mueller to resign. Now they justified their existence, they think.
What’s Yates’ been up to lately?
He has all the authority of a prosecutor
Makes sense now why the WaPo dumped the “Democrats financed the dossier” story this week. Whoever leaked it to them knew Mueller was about to do perp walks and that theater would bury Hillary’s criminality in the MSM.
Mueller should still resign.
I will refer you to Maddow report for details on his comments a few days ago.
ImO it is a big deal he is resigning..just no idea what is behind it.
Rocket docket was looking at Flynn, IIrC
Anybody notice what Wonder Woman was wearing last night when she looked radiant? Black pants/shirt and blood red coat.
Anyone who is charged will scream bloody murder to have the Comey /Mueller history exposed as part of their defense.
When did the President do this? Is there a story out there about this?
Wild hogs are starting to be more common in parts of southern Indiana.
I think you are right.
Yep... anybody going to a trial will open up a lot of testimony and possibilities.
Boente is a Swamp creature. Maybe he wants nothing to do with whatever prosecution is about to take place. Conflict of interest?
It truly is.
