Its not easy watching California self-destruct. After all, my four sons are 6th generation Californians. One relative of ours journeyed here prior to the Gold Rush when the state population was just a handful of people. Family lore has it he was a gunslinger who, victorious in a gun duel, headed to California to avoid the law. He ended up ranching on what is now known as Mammoth Mountain. Other family members took part in the gold rush and one ended up discovering gold in 1895 in the Mojave Desert. My grandparents arrived in Kern County in the 1930s and worked as teachers educating the children of oil workers shortly after the discovery of oil in that region.
Proud of my heritage, I had this urge to run for the state legislature, so I did and I won. I was hoping I could do something in Sacramento to slow the decline of the Golden State. But it was not to be. I quickly discovered that the legislature was so dominated by far left ideologues, there was nothing that could be done to reverse course. My Democrat colleagues were not concerned one bit about how their policies were destroying the economic golden goose that made California so famous worldwide. Indeed, they actually believe their big government and nanny state policies have made California the model of how progressives can succeed in governing. Seriously.
Looks like as if California hasn’t taken in enough impoverished illegals, they want to encourage even more...
City of Stockton to Consider Americas First Basic Income Grant
Second dumbest, IMO — the dumbest was not following through on his plan to abolish the Department of Education.
(I heard someone speculate that his desire to eliminate the Dept. of Education is what got him shot — in any case, the Dept. of Education has always been a prime target for the anti-American, anti-moral, Communist and Globalist types… any one of theses groups would have reason to shoot him over the possibility of losing such a invaluable indoctrination resource.)
In reflection, perhaps not pushing for Bork may be the biggest goof up along with Sandra Day.
What are you talking about? 100 miles from the coast in S.CA is in the middle of the desert...
You talk funny BS!☺
I believe it.
You guys have a better climate than us.
You sound exactly like one of CA's thousands of realtors who tell everyone what a great deal on housing and the American dream they can get in CA, just 100 miles from the coast? Right? ☺ Palmdale anyone? ....lol
Ya see that's where all the low income blacks, whites and Hispanics were forced to go to, about 100 miles from the coast in the desert, in S. CA. Most of them hate life shortly there after, or find themselves in divorce and or turn into drunks commuting 4 hours per day. Ya see, that is where they pigeonholed all the lower income people.
In fact, about 100 miles from the S.CA coast, a Sheriff in the Victorville area said there is so much crime out there nowadays, he's never seen seen anything like it.☺
We know people who are now spending around $3,500 per month for mortgage and taxes on their cookie cutters homes because they made the mistake of not buying 40 years ago. They won't last, it's killing them.
Btw CA taxes are based about 1% of the sales price. If ya bought in 1968 ya got low reasonable taxes. If ya purchased in the last 2 decades or so in CA, you're tax screwed. In other words, nowadays when buying a home in CA, you are gong to get gang raped on taxes. No question!
Back in 1968 everything was pretty reasonable including housing and nobody was overly greedy. Nowadays? ferrrget it...lol
As long as we are considering letting California go, let give Puerto Rico it’s independence and let it go to.
A home about 5 miles from the coast in S.CA at about 725k with $20,000 down will run $3,300 from mortgage and insurance, then add in the taxes, which will come to about 800+ or so per month. And that's just for property taxes....Now add in all the other sky high CA taxes and prices...
☻
I also left in ‘94. The earthquake the final straw, years of talking about it turned to action. Live in Atlanta & my name is Mike. But I’ve never been back.
So you pick the worst place 100 miles inland to make your point Victorville, California.
Murrieta, California is one of best to make my point. The local area still has older homes available with a low crime rate. If you look hard you can still find homes with land for less than 350K.
Renting is a fools game. Avoid it at all costs.
There are two types of people in this world, those that are slaves and those that are masters. The difference between them is land
Did you not say this? ☺
Murrieta, California is one of best to make my point.
Murrieta sucks, get real. Blazing hot summers and the 15 freeway going through that area is gridlocked all the time nowadays. And you're still going to be paying 400k++ for the home and around $400++ per month in property taxes alone.
And try commuting from that area daily into LA and or OC...Just try it for 6 months. You'd rip your eyes out...lol
You might be able to fool some folks here in hacksaw Arkansas and elsewhere, but not me.☺
I base this on the fact the home prices are so freaking out of touch, most of those younger working class, who were born and raised here cannot afford a home here in the LA/OC area. In S. CA, you'd better have a government job with lots of benefits, and or a damn good paying, secure job. Otherwise, ferrrget it. Otherwise, head to palmdale or victorville.
It's why the CA natives move out, and the foreign nationals with money move in. This has been going on for decades now. Where ya been?
That's a fact that many California-bashers are not aware of.
I live in Connecticut and my property tax is $15,000 a year - or $1,250 a month. That's actually higher than my mortgage!
And the other big problem is, in CA, EVERYTHING is outrageously expensive, gas, utilities, water, food, car insurance, car registration, sales taxes and on and on.
So there ya go.
And another problem Sam, what ya spend in Connecticut on a 250,000 home, the equivalent in CA would cost ya about 500,000++
Whoops...
So here is the deal, I think you should continue to rent so you can enjoy the better weather. And, people like me that can deal with the hotter 3 or 4 months in the summer, watch their property appreciate while you flush you hard earned money down the toilet! For 8 to 9 months of the year the weather in Murrieta is the same as LA and Orange County.
In 2010, just a few years ago I paid 78K cash for a 1300sf home on a 10,000sf lot in Murrieta. My property taxes are under $1500 per year. Now it is worth about 350K. It will go to 500k while you continue to enjoy the weather.
I have lived many years in LA and Orange County. The freeways are way worse in that infested smog bowl than the 15 Freeway is out here and you know it.
There over a million people out here and thousands of good jobs available. There is no reason to work in LA or OC.
Bet the rent! Thats funny; I havent rented in over 50 years. You bet your rent Einstein
Once again, you might fool some of these folks who are out of state, but not me slick.

And why settle half a million? Maybe your 78k Murrieta property will go to 3 million! You just keep telling yourself this slick.☺
Just like a boomer, screwing the young for the sake of the old.
