As President Donald Trump and his administration face mounting questions about the incident, the FBI is working with authorities in Niger to investigate an ambush that left four U.S. soldiers dead in the country earlier this month, a law enforcement official told CNN.
Investigators are providing technical assistance, helping to collect and analyze evidence related to the surprise attack, that killed Special Forces soldiers Bryan Black, Jeremiah Johnson, Dustin Wright and La David Johnson.
Officials say the investigation is routine: The FBI usually looks into the killing of American citizens overseas, it often gives assistance investigating international terror investigations, and the agents on the ground in Niger are based out of U.S. embassies in nearby African countries.
But news of the probe is likely to put more pressure on the White House to tell what it knows about the deadly operation. Trump has been criticized for staying quiet about the incident for nearly two weeks, and he has come under fire for reportedly mishandling a condolence call to Myesha Johnson, La David Johnson's widow
On Oct. 4 a routine patrol of about 40 soldiers came under heavy fire from militants whom the Pentagon believes were a branch of the Islamic State group. In addition to the four deaths, two soldiers were wounded.
Black, Wright and Johnson died on the ground before being evacuated by helicopter. However, Johnson's body was not recovered until two days later.
Earlier this week, Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, accused the White House of withholding information and demanded it release the information it has regarding the events.
"We've been waiting for weeks and weeks," McCain told reporters Wednesday. "We will not sit by without having a complete understanding of what's going on."
Pentagon officials said they will be more forthcoming with information going forward and Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters this week "the loss of our troops is under investigation."
Meanwhile, the FBI says it won't release from an NDA someone who will testify to a committee because... it will implicate Clinton in the Russia-uranium fiasco.
See how easy it is folks. The Deep State is really too easy to read. The FBI needs to be deep-sixed.
I don’t think this is any more than the FBI providing forensics expertise. One, I think the FBI remains the worlds experts at forensics. Secondly, for those of us who want more efficient government, we don’t need to be replicating services in multiple agencies. So jumping on the FBI here because that’s the popular thing lately is probably not correct, in this case.
Well...let’s say that some CIA operation was going on and forty weapons were issued out, and a week later....these CIA-trained guys flipped and used the weapons on the Special Forces guys. People would turn around and starting asking stupid questions of the CIA which they would refuse to answer.
In the 1970s...if some scenario like this occurred...the special forces folks would just come and hunt down the CIA guys involved and get retribution. Course, you don’t know if that was the case here and the CIA created a mess.
Because we're trying to kill ISIS groups everywhere... especially since they're getting chased out of places like Syria. We don't want them regrouping elsewhere.
Didn’t they go to Benghazi 4 or more months later?
“...the surprise attack, that killed Special Forces soldiers Bryan Black, Jeremiah Johnson, Dustin Wright and La David Johnson.”
Were these guys SPECIAL FORCES Soldiers?!?! Or just more lax reporting?
“...and [Trump] has come under fire for reportedly mishandling a condolence call to Myesha Johnson...”
“reportedly mishandled”? No, it was deceptively twisted.
They are trying to set the false narrative in stone.

...Today, the Bureau has special agents and support professionals in more than 80 overseas offices, pursuing terrorist, intelligence, and criminal threats with international dimensions in every part of the world.
The FBI also takes part in all manner of global and regional crime-fighting initiatives, including Interpol and Europol, and Resolution 6, which co-locates FBI agents in DEA offices worldwide to combat drugs.
Its no exaggeration to say that the FBI is a global organization for a global age...
“Were these guys SPECIAL FORCES Soldiers?!?! Or just more lax reporting?”
Nope. Support troops.
My guess would be to find the traitors that set up these men for this ambush adter their meeting.
If Nigerians come from Nigeria, what are people called who live in Niger?
bttt
McQueeg is holding up appointments until he gets his pounds of flesh.
The FBI, like the US military, has a worldwide presence. Someone has to protect the interests of the Global Elites. As GW Bush says, “Globalism isn’t going away!”
Must be nice to work for an organization which never does anything, you get paid to travel the world and if you fail to get results...well thats just fine.
Maybe they should change the name from FBI to TSA.
How many of the Locals failed to show up for the Patrol ? If there were some there’s your answer
Same jurisdiction that had our guys there in the first place I suppose.
I know people who would simply call them African-Americans.
Because government schools are awesome.
They need to stay state side and investigate Fort Jackson
