(CNN)The University of Florida in Gainesville is bracing for a day of protests Thursday when white supremacist Richard Spencer arrives on campus to deliver a speech on his racist views.
The event, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, will be Spencer's first planned visit to a college campus since he and others participated in the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August. University and local officials are concerned that Thursday's event could also become violent, and they have taken a number of steps to prevent that.
On Monday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for Alachua County, where the university is located, to enable law enforcement agencies to work together more efficiently. He also made a provision for the National Guard to be activated if necessary. "I find that the threat of a potential emergency is imminent," Scott said in the executive order declaring the state of emergency.

Good. They will likely be needed to put down the lawless rabid leftists who will illegally riot and cause havoc.
Lets hope those idiots get pepper-balled like they did in Phoenix a few months back.
Whats the background on this idiot? I smell Soros.
I wonder who pays this slime Spencer to do all this crap?
Hasn’t Florida had a crappy enough time lately, with the sucky football team?
In what universe is this objective "news"? This is biased, slanted op-ed page kind of stuff!
No wonder I never watch or read CNN anymore.
So, let me be clear: you’re joining the ‘Progressive’ cultural Marxists in their protest against free speech?
IDK, seems like his name just sprouted up over the past month or two. Maybe a convenient invention of the Left to tar conservatives?
This event smells like a democRAT setup to further divide Americans. No doubt that Soros money is behind this.
He's quite academic and really, only, advocates for people of European descent to have the same rights every other group seems to have.
Is Richard Spence being paid by George Soros?
He’s NOT an invited speaker - he just rented a room from the University to cause trouble. They should have told him ‘no’...
He could have rented some local hotel banquet room and not caused all this drama. UF should have told him NO... NOT an invited speaker - not welcome...
I wonder who pays this slime Spencer to do all this crap?

See post 3 for a possible answer.
Soros.
He funded the radical right AND the radical left at Charlottsville. He doesn’t care who or how the social status of our country is ruined and destroyed.
Just as long as it does indeed fall apart.
>>So, let me be clear: youre joining the Progressive cultural Marxists in their protest against free speech?
Free speech goes both ways.
Look, he’s NOT an invited speaker. This has nothing to do with ‘free speech’ and everything to do with drama queening... The University of Florida should have told him NO NO WAY - rent a hotel banquet room...
Someone needs to see who is funding this nut - I’m guessing George Soros or one of his nutty spin off organizations.
And the hurricanes...
Actually the Hurricanes are pretty good this year, Richt has them going in the right direction.
Who the hell is this Spencer moron and why would anyone want to listen to him give a speech? I’ve never heard of him.
Probably 'Southern Poverty Law Center, George Soros, or rogue FBI undercover agents... The University of Florida should know better. Would they rent a room to a 'small pony' show? NOPE, they would not.
He's not an invited speaker... (which is different)... Spencer should have been told to rent a hotel banquet room...

LOL...
