After the Massachusetts Legislature sped restrictions on bump stocks, a tool to increase the firing rate of guns, through the legislative process, senators opened the issue up to a public hearing.
No members of the public showed up.
"I was not going to ask most of our people to take a day off and come to the Statehouse to talk about something that already happened," said Jim Wallace, executive director of Gun Owners' Action League of Massachusetts.

It isn’t about safety or preventing shootings - it’s about banning something, anything to do with firearms. Any restriction even a trivial one is a step in the right direction for the tyrants and a step in the wrong direction for the rest of us.
Why doesn’t maura healey just issue one of her administrative actions to ban them?
No one attended because anyone who moderately pays attention knows that these hearings are for show. The pigs on Bacon Hill will do what they want, confident that their moronic constituents will reelect them if they spew enough politically correct nonsense come election time.
MassHoles.
Anyone who modifies a rifle to increase its rate of firing would be punished by three to 20 years in prison.
The bills were passed quickly without any public hearing.
Sounds like they were also passed without any actual THOUGHT involved.
At Sandy Hook “fired 154 bullets in about five minutes” ... without a bump stock.
So, since no one showed up from either side, is that tacit agreement that Mass should ban or restrict bump stocks?
Ever read about hearings that were held that nobody knew about except the politicans ? Sounds like this is one of them. Best a look see into this before they announce the result.
I am actually a member of GOAL (great organization) and knew about this, but like most conservatives, I have to work for a living, and secondly, it is all about show as is most gun legislation. It is kabuki theater, doesn’t affect me.
I didn’t even know bump stocks existed, even though I knew the concept of bump firing and had tried it semi-successfully once, but didn’t want to really make it work since nobody wants to attract unwanted attention at a gun range, right?
Thing is, I see this largely as virtue signalling by liberals who want to show they are doing something about “gun violence” (even though they aren’t, which is fine too because their concept of “gun violence” and mine are quite different) with no impact on my right to own and carry a gun.
To me, this is like a hearing to pass legislation on whether guns should be allowed to be black in color or not, or whether it should be allowed to have a bayonet mount.
Exactly. A decade or so back, I went to one of these 'public hearings' in Rochester, NY, as they prepared to ban 'assault weapons' in city limits.
I went to the podium and spoke of my DCM-CMP program shooting competitions, and how this would ban my sport.
Many other people went to the podium ... some collectors, some competitors, some who simply objected because of the horrible definitions and all-encompassing nature of the ban (Glock pistols and 1911-style .45's were caught up as 'assault weapons) in the definition... even the humble Ruger 10/22 was caught up.)
At the end, the leader of the City Council stood up and said, "I have listened to all of you. However, I recommend to my colleagues to pass this legislation. I will NOT REST if there is even ONE ASSAULT WEAPON in this city."
In other words, "Yeah, but f*** you."
Given that he was shooting for 10 minutes, 600 seconds, and assuming he took two seconds between shots and 10 seconds to reload after every 30 shots, he could easily have gotten off 240 aimed shots into a packed crowd. He would have killed a lot more than 58 people.
Already banned in MA thanks to Mitt Romney and ex-AG Scott Harshbarger. Along with flash suppressors, folding stocks, magazines over 10 rounds and lots more.
Yeah. I know. But how many people who come on this forum and pop off about this actually go to these hearings?
Very few, I would guess.
What a bunch of pansies. I bet you’re glad you escaped that tyrannical gulag of a town.
