...
The Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) confirmed yesterday that it has given observer status to the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) in a move which sets out a clear pathway towards full Olympic recognition.
Patrick Baumann, president of GAISF said it was an exciting time for pole sports and added: We will do everything within our remit to help them realise their full potential...

Paywall.
I don't even want to think about "pole sports" for transgenders. As for the Olympics - just LOL.

"...Patrick Baumann, president of GAISF said it was an exciting time for pole sports and added: We will do everything within our remit to help them realise their full potential..." I would be willing to donate a dollar to make this an Olympic sport. And another...and another...

Everyday it’s more like jesters and jezebels performing before the court. What’s next sword swallowing? Take a knee!

We’re talking about pole dancing as an Olympic sport now and the talk of the nation focuses on sexual harassment in Hollywood. Does anyone see how incongruous this is?

Pole dancing and video games..?
wow.
when I started hating Olympics and ignoring them I had no idea that I was a trailblazer.

They tried to take wrestling out of the Olympics, but pole dancing will be added. Does Harvey Weinstein rule the world?

I just wonder how Patrick Baumann came home and told his wife.
Well, I got good news for me and bad news for you. I finally got a job. I’m executive director of a pole dancing team.
Just another reason to skip the Olympics.

I suppose they had to come up with something to compete against the Brazillian womens beach volley ball team events.

Forget seedy clubs. Go to YouTube and you can find some incredibly athletic routines, and even more cringe worthy fails.
An amazingly high percentage of the fails are from what appear to be cheap poles - basically flimsy vertical shower-curtain rod like poles held in place (at least briefly) by friction. Moral of the story: ladies, buy good equipment!
As for making it an Olympic sport??? I don't know. The engineer in me prefers sports/contests that are less subjective - where there is a definitive time, distance, placement, weight...
