Sen. John McCain warned against the US turning toward 'half-baked, spurious nationalism' and jabbed at unnamed pushers of isolationist politics while at an event honoring the war hero's contributions.
The six-term Republican senator from Arizona made the remarks at his National Constitution Center Liberty Medal ceremony in Philadelphia after receiving the award for a lifetime of service and sacrifice to the country.
In addition to recalling his more than two decades of Navy service and his imprisonment in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp, McCain took a moment to go a step further than the night's other speakers, who lamented what many described as a fractured political climate.

His family hates him and he hates them. It’s a family of convenience. Why would he want to spend his last days with them when he could be twisting the knife in the back of America?

Does getting captured make one a hero. Sure, he didn’t want to be captured...but he was. I feel sorry he suffered at the hands of a brutal regime in Vietnam but that doesn’t make one a hero.
Most of the heroes are dead and buried... and those alive don’t act like John McLame.

Yes, we have some ideals, but were some other set of ideals ruling this land, and we and our ideals on some minor piece of geography, our ideals would have had much less impact on the whole, and we would have had a lot different history, a history that would have “made” us whatever we became.
Geography cannot be ignored as a fact of life that can hinder or help you, whatever ideals you think you are advancing.
But once a set of ideals are achieved and advanced it is that soil and the blood shed for the Liberty provided on that soil that this nation gets “made” by those efforts.
John McCain probably would have gotten all cosy with the corrupt characters depicted in the movie “Brubaker”.
Translated, his complaint actually says he’s infuriated that the conservatives and patriots are still here.
