But then in September, the EPA truly infuriated the biofuel industry by floating the idea of bringing the proposed total even lower, and of revisiting other renewable fuel requirements for 2018 and 2019 finalized under the Obama administration.
The proposal is in line with what the oil and gas industry want (those energy producers think the RFS adds to the cost of refining petroleum and wants to see Congress rewrite the underlying 2005 law). Until Congress acts to address the structural flaws with the RFS, Frank J. Macchiarola of the American Petroleum Institute wrote in a letter to the EPA earlier this year, lowering the volume requirements in 2018 is the most effective short-term way for EPA to address the problems created by the RFS.

Corn is for cows NOT cars !
Yep. This silliness needs to end.
And popping.
It ruins my small engines.
The ethanol mandate is textbook Fascism.
and roasting over an open fire.
IIRC it is illegal to feed spent grain from ethanol fuel production to farm animals.
Ethanol has a role and a place. The problem is it is not used that way. With the government involvement it is one size fits all..........
Amen. Plus it's bad for your engine.
(hiya nully)
Yep. It dissolved the fuel lines in my weed trimmer, rendering it unrepairable.
That was all the evidence I needed. And, no, Stabil don't prevent this.
There's a few stations near by that have dedicated pumps for ethanol-free gas. It's about $.50 more per gallon but that's all I'll use in my small engines.
My current ride started throwing check-engine lights and other issues. The local dealer where I bought it told me to find non-ethanol gas. I did and everything is perfect. I hate paying a premium for NE gas but it is all my ride will run on without problems.
I hope ethanol requirements are phased out over the next 2 or 3 years. Give everyone a chance to adapt. I cant blame the farmers for creating the stupid situation but it is part of their planning now.
Thought that was chestnuts. ;-)
It’s pricey but it’s all I run.
All the vintage stuff gets EF no question.
The ‘spent grain’ is called DDGS and there is a worldwide market for it as animal feed.

Seem to recall the cost-benefit ration was pretty bad. Don’t know if it still is or not.
And pigs.
Corn is best when its bacon.
This. Lost a chainsaw and the motor on my DR high wheel trimmer before I wised up and ran nothing but ethanol-free premium in all of my small engines. Current DR starts on the first pull, chainsaws on the second or third. Also fill up the Yukon with non-ethanol premium every 5th or 6th tankful. What a difference. That big 6.0 liter engine just purrs.
