NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell signaled last week that a change in policy regarding standing for the national anthem would be approved by team owners at the annual fall meeting next week.
But the players and their allies in the media pushed back -- hard. Now it appears that Goodell and the players union will codify a policy that will allow kneeling or any other protest during the playing of the anthem. And the league will justify it by using the NFL brand as a "platform to both raise awareness and make progress on issues of social justice and equality in this country."
In other words, a total, complete cave to the players.
What we dont have is a proposal that changes our policy, we dont have something that mandates anything. Thats clear. If that was the case I doubt the head of the NFLPA would have put a joint statement out with us.
The statement released on Wednesday said Goodell invited NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith to the meetings and that the agenda will be a continuation of how to make progress on the important social issues that players have vocalized.
The protests, in a league where African-Americans make up the majority of players, have continued through the current season, with some players kneeling and others standing arm-in-arm in solidarity.
The gesture is intended to call attention to what protesting players see as a pattern of racism in the treatment of African-Americans by U.S. police.
The issue has been exacerbated after U.S. President Donald Trump said last month that players who did not stand during the anthem should be fired.
Lockhart said the discussions will focus on how to use the broad platforms of the NFL, players and clubs to try and make progress on issues of equality, social justice and criminal justice reform.
These are issues that are important to our clubs, issues that are important to our players, issues that are important to the communities in which we play, said Lockhart.
Thats what we are discussing. So for everyone who has speculated over the last few days that somehow there is a proposal that is set for a vote on Tuesday or Wednesday you are speculating.
Those who are reporting it as fact are reporting it incorrectly.
And that will be that. The league will bow to the players' disrespect for the flag -- even though they piously claim that's not what they're doing -- and adopt their radical thesis that police are targeting black people and are racist to the core. I think that in responsem police departments in NFL cities should refuse to provide any security for NFL games. After all, we wouldn't want the delicate nature of 350 lb. men to be affected by having all these racist police in uniforms making it possible for fans to enjoy the games in safety.
The inmates are in control of the asylum. The National Football League cares more about the radical political views of its players than the feelings and patriotism of its fans. They have apparently resigned themselves to having to live with this controversy for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, they will continue to lose fans who attend games and watch on TV. Other revenue streams like merchandise will also be negatively impacted.
So much for "America's Game."
Particularly given that I'm of the demographic that can afford to buy products from NFL sponsors like Mercedes,Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Neiman Marcus Department Store you might wanna rethink your position.
Well they sure are raising a lot of “ awareness”
Of how little respect they have for this country and a great great many of their fellow Americans
We show respect for the flag
They show contempt

You don’t need to watch the game to watch the cheerleaders. There’s also YouTube
They will adopt a ‘players-in-lockers-during-anthem’ policy, but plenty of damage can’t be undone.
I don’t care anymore. But I would like to see the NFL go bankrupt. Just for amusement of course.
The whack-jobs have taken over the asylum with the approval of the top shrink.
There you have it the so called NFL Commissioner who wont enforce the rules to stand for the anthem . More worried about Tom Bradys deflated footballs when his own middle pair are seriously flattened. Another Loyyyywerrr lefty gelding triangulated by pc propaganda. Roger and out.
Great point. That’s the real problem.
In a bigger sense, that’s the problem with hiring people who aren’t in their job because they love the job, but are instead in the job primarily for the money. Or, stated another way, they don’t mainly love the job, they love the money they make in the job.
Once an organization crosses this line, it’s only a matter of time before it completely runs off the rails.
The NFL and Monica Goodell are totally out of touch with their fans. WOW! Soon to go the way of JC Penny’s
Several years ago when Rush said that liberalism would be the death of the NFL, he seemed crazy.
Dear NFL,
I won’t be renewing my Chiefs season tickets....EVER.
I was able to tolerate the high ticket prices, overpriced vendors, over valued merchandise, loan-shark parking prices, the traffic and putting up with increasing scuffles in the stands with drunk fans.
This is just the cherry on the top.
No thanks. I’ll take my hard earned money elsewhere.
I’ll just stick to curling (and that ain’t a sarc either)
Where are the adults?
I’m liking hockey.
"I can explain the lipstick on my collar," the man declares. "I used my shirt to wipe my p3cker!"
Remember when they ran off Rush as a commentator on ESPN?
Remember when Rush was offered a limited partnership with the Rams until the SJWs screeched and the owners freaked out?
Yeah...I still remember.
Glad he’s not part of that crap anymore.
I hope police departments in NFL cities decline duty on game days and let them use mall cops for security.
Couldn’t be happier! Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate hate. Now that their hatred for me is out, I’m out as a fan.
I’m guessing that most of the fans who have walked away from the NFL in recent weeks were already sick of it for other reasons. This whole disaster just gave them a great opportunity to walk away as part of a principled stand.
Where are the adults?

Patriotic adults are PERMANENTLY boycotting the NFL and ANYTHING associated with it.
