The president of Catolonia has now taken back his illegal declaration of independence. If he didn't, he would have been arrested or the government would have sent in the national guard. Anyway, now he wants to negotiate over the next two weeks. Here in Madrid, everyone is annoyed with Catalan, there are Spanish flags hanging everywhere which mean that they want unity. Most people here think Catalan is acting very stupid. I don't usually contribute my opinion about it because I don't know enough about the history. But my roommate sais that Catalan is not perfect, they are not innocent either. I don't even want to know!
I want less globalism. An independent country of Catalonia means less globalism, so I like the idea.
Interesting
When I was in Barcelona recently, everybody was flying the Catalonia Flag.
Disorganized anarchists. Figures.
I visited Barcelona in 2012. There was a protest in one of the squares. Lots of shouting; but no violence. Interesting enough, no Catalan flags but several Communist flags.
The other thing is that every Thursday, the taxi drivers in Barcelona go on strike, it’s a real problem for tourists if they aren’t prepared.
Fortunately, we used the Hop-On/Hop-Off busses to get around.
I wish our USA government would arrest the California Governor, and Attorney General for essentially advocating secession. Sanctuary State is a lawless State.
These ministates are a lot like Ireland - profoundly unserious. They think they can cut defense spending to zero and divert it all to the welfare state. Imagine an EU full of such ministates. They’d soon be calling it Greater Turkey or Greater Russia.
What does Catalonia have to do with globalism? Catalonia has never been independent and has always been part of Spain.
I walked the Camino Frances in 2015 and stayed in a small inn outside of Pamplona. Chatting with the innkeeper and his wife I mentioned that I was going to meet my family in Barcelona after my walk. The innkeeper, smiled and shook his head, “Barcelona,” he said,”Barcelona is not Spain.”
The movement for the independence of Catalunya is a primarily a project of the rancid, lunatic left-wing fringe. It’s greatest champions are the likes of Anna Gabriel of the CUP and Junts Pel Si. If you Google her and these two organizations you’ll see what I mean.
A very wise observation, sir.
Subway system is okay if you don’t mind walking up and down multiple flights of stairs to change trains. Madrid has a much better system.
We saw people lined up for the busses to take them for the airport at the Plaza de Catalunya. It was nuts.
We just simply jumped on the subway to go to the airport, the trick was to figure out the right tickets to get to go there, but it was fine.
Just how unserious is Ireland? The jet fixed wing component of its air force consists of less than a dozen gun-armed trainers. A ruthless invader could have Ireland conquered in days. Whereas Singapore, with roughly the same population and a similar economic profile, has 150 missile-armed fighter-bombers. One is kumbaya made flesh masquerading as a state, whereas the other makes no bones about not going down without a fight.
Sounds like the Communists who took over the Spanish Republican faction are feeling their oats again. Of course, there are differences today - no Russian backing (yet) for the Commies. And it’s unclear what today’s castrated Spanish Commies would do with weapons.
The funny thing is, smaller countries may mean more globalism. An independent Scotland would be more dependent on the EU. So would Catalonia.
Catalonia has never been independent and has always been part of Spain.
Well, ever since these two crazy kids got together:
Love those crazy kids lol (but technically it was part of Aragon before then)
