After four days of terrorizing Wine Country and surrounding regions, the Northern California wildfires on Thursday became the deadliest in state history, with 31 confirmed fatalities and more expected.
The most destructive of those, the Tubbs fire, killed at least 15 people, and new figures told of its destruction. Santa Rosa lost 2,834 homes and approximately 400,000 square feet of commercial space, and Mayor Chris Coursey expects the numbers to grow.
We all have suffered a trauma here, the mayor said. He is said it will take time to recover from this incident. The city of Santa Rosa has suffered a serious blow.
Even as fire resources pour in from out of state, Cal Fire Director Ken Pimlott expects the fires to continue to burn erratically and have the potential to shift in any direction at any time.
Over the day, the number of deaths rose from 24 to 31, as the toll increased in Sonoma County to 17, to eight in Mendocino, and to four in Yuba. Two others died in Napa County, and Yuba County Sheriff Steven Durfor said another burn victim could perish.
The fires terrifying wrath rages on. While Cal Fire ranks the deadliest fires in modern history by singular events, the multiple fires burning at the same time combine as the deadliest.

“They may have killed hundreds.”
My wife and I were dumbfounded after talking to evacuees from Santa Rosa at the hotel, restaurants, stores and on the beach, that they were not told to evacuate.
Would you please in a separate reply repost your info about how farmers and ranchers were prevented by the enviral whackoos from removing weeds and creating firebreaks around their property.
Sorry to hear that.
This why Cal Fire use their own weather people.
So many of the so called weather people on TV are enviral whackoos more interested in preaching the Gorebull Warming religion that the science of weather prediction.
Wow...out of all of this I am going to invest in a small Ham Rig with scanner capabilities and get the into/Tehcnicians License. Its only 35 questions for the FCC License (plus a bit of cash) . For the price of Baofeng radios I can get a couple. We got the mandatory evac order. My wife was there and I was in Fresno working. I could not for the life of me get any handle through the internet or telephone calls to authorities a to just where the fire was so I could judge as to its distance from my wife.
Luckily for us, the fire moved away from us and we were out of danger and did not have to face what those folks in Loma Rica, Bangor and of course the North Bay Counties, faced. But she was packed and ready to go at a second’s notice and stayed that way until I could get here some accurate information.

Nearly every acre of land from San Francisco to Eureka has a tributary stream (even if dry in summer) and vernal pools. EPA claimed jurisdiction over all of it in 2015 and said farmers, ranchers...anyone...could not cut anything within 100 feet of these “protected waters”.
The CA EPA supports and enforces these rules stridently.
Underbrush and grasses exploded.
Then they exploded in fire.
That’s the root cause of this horrible tragedy.
Before we left all phone lines were down and all cell phones.
The local radio station did a great job and let us know that route was clear and open to get out of here.
On the way to the coast, my wife tried to call or text family and friends in the fire impacted areas, and no one answered nor responded. Then, she lost all 4g coverage for 24 hours. She is on AT&T.
Later on the west side of Bodega Bay, my cell phone on Verizon had connections. We texted family and friends to let them know we were safe.
Later that night, my wife’s premium Android never picked up the hotel’s wifi. My $100 Toshiba and ACER Chromebook worked with the house wifi most of the time.
Two adult sons are considered by their companies and critical managers. Their companies provide the latest Apple I phones and pay for supposedly some type of premium service from AT&T for one and Verizon for the others so they can be reached 24/7 if necessary. The local one’s phone was not available for over 24 hours, and the other one’s was not available until late Monday. So much for their premium high priced cell phones and lines.
Thanks for posting this grim reality of how do gooder enviral rats not only endanger us, their actions can kill us or take away our homes.

5700 homes have been destroyed as per a Ktvu news crawler.
I Bet there will be a lot of review after this one. BTW, more evacuations today for Sonoma and east Santa Rosa..the fires continue. Our fires are 65 contained for the La Porte Fire. The Cascade in Yuba County is the same or better. Pray for all of those that lost so much so quickly.
For those needing housing I wonder about scrapping the lots clear and putting in those container type houses as temporary housing for land owners there while they build. Makes sense as there is a shortage of housing in Santa Rosa before the fire. The county or city could put a limit on the type of housing of say three years to give everyone time to rebuild. Just need to hook them up to electric, water and sewer. Gives folks a sense of relief of where they are staying..comradity in staying in the same neighborhood and a sense of urgency to complete the rebuild to get out of living in a container-home. Its something anyway and might be more personal and do-able than FEMA trailers which might be in use due to the Hurricanes.
“Even on Monday am they were posting nasty anti-Trump material and comments.”
And then they will have the gall to demand Federal aid.
I don't think you can blame the politicos (or the tv weather people for that matter) for not giving adequate warnings...these fires sprang up simultaneously in numerous locations in the middle of the night borne by very strong winds.
I you live in California though, you'd be well advised to keep track of which places have buried electrical wires and which ones don't, as it is likely an exploding transformer from a downed power line which set this catastrophe in motion.
Can someone help me with this -
I’ve been looking at videos & drone footage of some neighborhoods hit by the fire.
1. How are the streets so bare and passable? Shouldn’t there be debris all over?
2. How can trees be standing (the whole tree, not just a burned trunk), some still with leaves or pine cones (hard to tell from the pics) surrounded by housing that is burned to the ground? Shouldn’t they have burned up completely as well?
NOAH weather update: re wind warnings and weather for North Bay.
Pine and cedar trees have fire resistant bark. If it’s just a grass fire it is unlikely that it will do more than scorch the bark.
Houses however are not fire resistant.
For latest fire updates in Sonoma Cty. There are still problems from the city of Sonoma along route 12 to Santa Rosa.
FOX Radio News keeps saying that 5700 number includes businesses.
Either way, that number is staggering.
Possibly related.
I am noticing sooooo many noozpeeps wearing purple.
(Soros’ purple revolution, in support of hillary, IDK)
Irritates me.
Not everyone loves purple that much.
There was a weatherman named Brian Sussman who used to be on KPIX IIRC who doesn’t believe in global warming.
He now hosts the morning show on KSFO AM(Conservative programming)
Wildfires happen around here a lot. Just had one a week before this disaster up north. Fire jumped from a house fire to the brush and took off. Charred about 100 acres before it hit the mountain behind us and the rock face starved it of fuel. The firefighters were on it like flies on manure. They used C-130s,DC-10s, skycranes, Hueys. If the house that started fire was 200ft.to the South, we would have lost our home. Fire is nothing to scoff at. Jesus said that the rain falls on the just and unjust, same thing with fire.
