McCain could give the same thumbs-down to a tax overhaul as he did to health care

It’s a specter that should stalk the nightmares of Republican leaders: a Senate chamber, packed on Christmas Eve, as lawmakers gather to decide the fate of a tax package that will shape the GOP’s political fortunes. The bill remains one vote shy, and then Sen. John McCain walks in, pauses before the desk, and delivers his second thumbs-down dagger of the year.

For that reason, the Arizona Republican, who is fighting a public battle with brain cancer, will be among his party’s most closely watched as the year winds down and the tax debate gears up. Yet over his decades in public life, McCain has traced a zigzagging line on the subject, leaving little clear indication of how he’ll approach a potentially decisive vote. A look at the senator's record on taxes shows that three things seem most important to him: public debate, some help for the middle class, and not exploding the deficit.

I voted for Sarah Palin.

One of the few good things the man did in his life.

McCain is NOT a war hero.

His war record should get him court-martialed. First he was a lousy pilot, crashing many of those expensive military planes. He was shot down and captured in Vietnam.

What exactly did McCain do that was “heroic”?

Good. Let McCain do it.

He'll be making damn sure he goes out on a LOW NOTE.

Mccain is a Democrat and must be expelled from the party. If all he’s going to do is obstruct the RNC platform and support the DNC platform it makes NO sense to let him remain in the RNC

McConnell is the one who enables McCain to threaten this nonsense. Seems to me that Mitch could move McCain from chairman armed services, to say, deputy asst chrmn in charge of pit toilets for national parks. Who knows what McCain would do even then? But maybe Murkowski and Collins would get in line.

One would think that that would be the final straw for Arizonians.

Bitter jealous nasty John McCain, I wouldn’t put anything past him.

He fancies himself to be a “statesman” when in fact he’s just an @ss and a mean old man.

Rooting for the tumor, rooting for the tumor.

“6-9 months is what my wife says. She used to be an ICU nurse.”

I kinda agree with your wife. Last ninety days, a person would typically be on some serious medications/pain killers and probably only be capable of a couple hours a day of activity. My guess is that by Christmas, you won’t see McCain around, but he’ll remain in office until the end so they can say he “worked” all the way to the end.

i hope for whatever reason he is replaced very soon. He is not clear and accurate in thinking and he is only pretending to be well and able to do his job for his state and the country.

thats the impression i got form reading the article about the pharmacy delivering alzheimer and other Rx’s to folks on capitol hill.

Not just mccain but I guess many should not be up there representing us people anymore.
