I took data from SportsMediaWatch.com to look at television viewership at NFL games 2014-2017.
Most of the data in news reports compares same day games from last year to this year, (ie; MNF from one year to the next).
I decided to look at the aggregate of each week's data over the last four seasons to get an idea of trends.
So what you are seeing is the TOTAL viewers for Nationally Televised games, each week, Year-Over-Year(From Thursday Night - Monday Night).
Below is the data for Games 1 - 5 of seasons 2014 through 2017.
It's interesting to note, each of the first five games in 2015 saw INCREASES in viewership over 2014. But in 2016, (when Kaper' took a knee), we see the first big decline (almost 10 million less viewers per week). And year over year, 2016-2017 is holding about 10 million less viewers PER WEEK compared to 2014-2015.
Below is the data for Games WEEKS 1 - 5 of seasons 2014 through 2017.
I won’t be satisfied until NFL viewership is zero.
Thanks for doing this.
I should have said First 5 Weeks, NOT First 5 Games ...
The numbers will go down as more and more teams no longer have a possibility to be in the playoffs. And that includes big markets like NY, LA, and Chicago.
kaepernicking is taking its toll.
I went and cut the cord this week: no more cable TV for me at all. The NFL and ESPN can kiss it.

I love it.
That is great!
Or the Dallas Cowgirl Pussies!
We knew what you meant..................B^)
Thanks for posting. It is VERY interesting.
And, not to nitpick too much, but how come there are four datapoints for five weeks?
As each week goes on in the season I'll add a group of data points.
AT&T will report heavy subscriber losses at DirecTV in its third-quarter earnings, bleeding that the telco giant chalked up to heightened competition and summer hurricane season.
No way could it be that nobody wants the NFLSUNDAYTICKET. Nah. It's Harvey and Irma causing the drop in the Rust Belt and Plains states

Sorry, I’m the fool here.
I glanced at the 4 bar bundles and thought they were weekly trends, and each bundle was a year. Not the case at all.
Colin cancer !
Thanks for the list of NFL TV sponsors. We also need a list of their competitors who do not pay to advertise on NFL games. We need to punish the bad and reward the good.
