Roger Goodell tells NFL owners ‘everyone should stand for the national anthem’

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday wrote a letter to all 32 league owners regarding the protests that have taken place during the national anthem, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

In the letter, which Schefter shared on his Facebook page, Goodell wrote that the “current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.”

Last year, former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat down and later took a knee during the playing of the national anthem as protest against racial injustice. More players have joined the protests and President Donald Trump spoke out against the activity in September and has continued to do so.

Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters has sat during the playing of the national anthem at every game this season.

For the next shoe to drop, Trump needs to ban the military from participating in any NFL event, including advertising, color guards, fly overs, anything. Pull the plug.

NO....that means they will have won.

Too bad;too late.

I am a huge fan of my NFL team and it will NEVER be the same and I have no sympathy for its demise.

The only thing more insulting than the NFL not standing for the flag is the fact that they think people are dumb enough to believe they’re disingenuous, fake regrouping and now saying they should stand. Too late. EFF the NFL

If the NFL really is interested in the players and what they are upset about, they should ask them to put their problems in writing and submit to the NFL. Then the NFL should review, call for a meeting, sit down with the players, go over problem items one by one. The NFL will have their ‘social’ experts on hand to provide historical data which show most, if not all, of the problems have been addressed. The players should have their ‘social’ experts on hand to either agree or disagree with past solutions.

Like Mike Ditka, it is my opinion that there has been very little oppression directed against minority people for many, many years. And if so, it has been addressed and resolved. 100%, NO. We do not live in a perfect world and if that is the players goal they will never be happy. It is time for all to grow up and act like informed and intelligent individuals.

A little late to the party. I guess Hillary’s focus group was too busy crafting her response to her friendship with Weinstein the pervert.

[How about suspending players that give a black power salute after tackling a white player?]

Wasn’t aware of that. ‘And ethnos shall rise against ethnos” - Matthew 24.

Useful idiot thugs and the liberal MSM seem Hell-bent on making it happen. Insanity.

This started in August 2016. That is the day Godell could have done something about this and not a day later not the morning after. Certainly not a year after

BTW, I came across this in my research. Every fan who doesn’t do what VP Pence did is complicit.

Every one

“...Sept. 11 — Seahawks, Dolphins, Chiefs and Patriots players demonstrate during nation anthem

The first Sunday of the NFL season took place on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. This made the national anthem ceremonies on that day particularly emotional. Four Dolphins players — running back Arian Foster, safety Michael Thomas, wide receiver Kenny Stills and linebacker Jelani Jenkins — took a knee during the anthem after standing up for a 9/11 acknowledgment.”

What PDJT needs to do now is invite the players to help him address problems in the inner cities. There must be something they can do to help other than crawl around on their knees

Yes, each team in their by week should help walk Chicago's inner city to help the people there pout down their weapons.

Yeah, well, eff you goodell. Your brand is burning down to the ground because you seriously misjudged your customers. Die die die NFL. You will not be missed.

Ps. It’s too late to bring back your fans. Only dickheads and thugs watch you now.

How’s that feel? Your wallet a little lighter?

thanks. surprised more don’t know that the commish serves at the pleasure of the owners.

So the owners start hinting things to change regarding behavior during the National Anthem. (tho it’s always been in their owners rules)
Goodell gets the hint and comes out with a letter to the owners regarding “suggested” behavior during the National Anthem.
Owners are now off the hook. Goodell takes the heat and gets a new contract.
Who knew a circular firing squad could be a success ?

The famous video of Buzz Williams talking to the players about respect for the National Anthem just took a strange turn.
“Williams said he would not object if any of his players wanted to kneel during the national anthem.”

I think Goodell realized he is going to lose millions or tens of millions by miscalculating the damage this is doing. How is he possibly going to sign any new deals with all this going on?
