NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday wrote a letter to all 32 league owners regarding the protests that have taken place during the national anthem, ESPNs Adam Schefter reported.
In the letter, which Schefter shared on his Facebook page, Goodell wrote that the current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.
Last year, former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat down and later took a knee during the playing of the national anthem as protest against racial injustice. More players have joined the protests and President Donald Trump spoke out against the activity in September and has continued to do so.
Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters has sat during the playing of the national anthem at every game this season.

TRUMP BROKE the NFL!!!! LOL
Doesn’t go far enough. Players should stand for the anthem, and also make no gestures or statements concerning political or social issues while involved in any team activity.
If they want to protest, all of it should take place away from their jobs as performers. (And they should understand that protesting away from their jobs can also cost them fans.)
[They shot your brand in the foot. Thats just how it is.]
It’s like sinking your mouth into a burger made of fake meat.
Why so hard on the guy?
Absolutely... a pathetic, gutless POS - quintessential libtard doing what all libtards in positions of power do - driving another institution to irrelevance and oblivion. What a dumbass...
"We live in a country that can feel very divided. Sports, and especially the NFL, brings people together and lets them set aside those divisions, at least for a few hours. The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.
"I'm very proud of our players and owners who have done the hard work over the past year to listen, understand and attempt to address the underlying issues within their communities. At our September committee meetings, we heard directly from several players about why these issues are so important to them and how we can support their work. And last week, we met with the leadership of the NFLPA and more players to advance the dialogue.
"Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us. We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.
"Building on many discussions with clubs and players, we have worked to develop a plan that we will review with you at next week's League meeting. This would include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues, and that will help to promote positive change in our country. We want to ensure that any work at the League level is consistent with the work that each club is doing in its own community, and that we dedicate a platform that can enable these initiatives to succeed. Additionally, we will continue the unprecedented dialogue with our players.
"I expect and look forward to a full and open discussion of these issues when we meet next week in New York. Everyone involved in the game needs to come together on a path forward to continue to be a force for good within our communities, protect the game, and preserve our relationship with fans throughout the country. The NFL is at its best when we ourselves are unified. In that spirit, let's resolve that next week we will meet this challenge in a unified and positive way."

Remember when Karl Rove assured us all that Trump would surely lose on this issue?
LOL.
Dear NFL: You are not worthy. GTH.
That said, I am thankful that his failed leadership has exposed the NFL as a leftist anti-American institution. NFL players should prepare for at least a 50% pay cut on their next contract. They can blame that on their fellow protesters, the Commissioner, and the team owners. It will be GREAT to watch the anguish when this happens.
Only after Trump threatens to throw out NFL tax exempt status.
Not on the job it isn't. If an employer doesn't want you protesting, you have no right to protest.
"Check out the brain on Rodger!!"
Followed hussein 0bama's "Lead from Behind" management principle.
Apparently, we pay the NFL thugs and their slave masters, the owners to have our military presentations before the games and during half time.
Cut any funding where the BLM/National Felons bs happens.
I would have agreed with you up until a few weeks ago, but not anymore. This isn’t Goodell’s fault. The NFL’s problem is that he’s reinforcing what is already in the heads of THE OWNERS.
Oh, the libs and the BLM crew are NOT happy about this! They are calling for a mass player wildcat strike in response. Works for me, it will kill the NFL even faster and make Trump look like an even bigger winner....
That being said, his clarification sounded like a post graduate study course in pc speak!
Dumb, dumb, dumb!
But the NFL was clearly supporting these A-holes protesting at work.
It wasn't until it began to cost them money that they started to back pedal.
Remember when Karl Rove and some of our concerned pearl clutching freepers, assured us all that Trump would surely lose on this issue?
Hey, Karl just leave and take your little white board and put it where the sun doesn’t sign!
Haha, too late Goodell. Done with your identity politics and thugs.
Die, NFL. Die.
Die, NBA. Die.
