Police have dramatically changed their account of how the Las Vegas massacre began on Oct. 1, revealing Monday that the gunman shot a hotel security guard six minutes before opening fire on a country music concert raising new questions about why police werent able to pinpoint the gunmans location sooner.
Officials had previously said that gunman Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., shot Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos after Paddock had unleashed his deadly volley at the Route 91 Harvest festival, an assault that began at 10:05 p.m. and left 58 people dead, with hundreds more injured.
They had credited Campos, who was shot in the leg, with stopping the 10-minute assault on the concert crowd by turning the gunmans attention to the hotel hallway, where Campos was checking an alert for an open door in another guests room.
But Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Monday that Paddock shot Campos before his mass shooting at 9:59 p.m. and they now dont know why Paddock stopped his attack on the crowd.

“The facts will no doubt bend to the benefit of Mandalay Bay and its insurers.”
Ooooo! Spot on! Always follow the money. ;)
what was the security guard doing outside his room to begin with? was he just strolling around and Paddock decided to shoot him..this whole story smells to high heaven
Actually that is what Thomas Wictor on Twitter has been positing since late last week.
Paddock tripped in a panic and killed himself.
That may explain why one of the rifles was on top of his leg.
or will we ever see it?
He went up to investigate an open stairway door and I believe he heard drilling and went over to check.
You must be living in a cave!
W.T.F.?
Who is “they” exactly? There’s a lot of confusion because “they” could be direct police reports or “they” could be rival media overeagerly reporting on leaks, or “they” could be bloggers reporting crap just because they ant clicks.
It would be better if people assembled timelines according to sources. The NY Times timeline... the police timeline... the AP timeline, etc...
As for me, I certainly BACK THE BLUE
I think the Casino/Hotel should pay all medical expenses for those injured in the shooting as well as funeral costs.
This thing is unraveling on the police very badly. Let’s interview Campos NOW!! If I am not mistaken, he knew the exact room of the shooter. Why was there a 72 minute delay in getting there? during which time 58 were murdered and 500 more wounded? Where were the police and sheriff’s department for an hour and 10 minutes. This is not adding up.
We don’t know why the story changed.
We’re breathlessly waiting for each new sound-byte.
Did the police get it wrong. Did the guard change his story? Did some idiot up front make a false statement unwittingly.
We just don’t know. But off we go now certain that this just doesn’t make sense.
Folks, take a freakin chill pill.
In a few weeks we’ll have a much better idea of how thing actually transpired.
It sure is taking the FBI a long time to make up what actually happened....
The hotel/casino may be playing the CYA game.
I think the Casino/Hotel should be sued for medical expenses plus funeral costs plus pain and suffering.
How about a $1 billion settlement?
This is a huge minor detail and the biggest issue is why did it take a week to say it(in passing).
Blows my theory all to hell, I’ll just have to make up a new one.
I call BS ! more likely that the “security guard”is a weapons broker aka Jesus and got in a shootout at close range with Paddock then shot up the crowd as payback for some kind of arms deal gone bad, this whole thing stinks like Benghazi
How much did you lose?
BATF suspected Campos as an accomplice
Scattered reports of guards chasing a guy in a “Security” jacket right after the shooting
Reports of a male leaving the shooter’s room riiight before the shooting started
Mystery charger to phone apparently sold only to 3-letter agencies, SF (CEO of that phone company suicides right after FBI questioning)
Hmmm....
Nor hell ... as yet.
Or he had to obfuscate what was going on. If his cover was blown, he was a dead man. Why not make it look like a crazy man.
If so, what took so long for the cops/SWAT to breach?

Are you serious? LOL
I Don’t know, maybe their capes were at the dry cleaners?
