The arrival of record-shattering hurricanes, forest fires in the West the size of Maryland, and collapsing glaciers makes something clear to anyone not in a state of ideological denial: Humanity is in a fight for its survival, and if we have any hope of saving ourselves from endless climate disasters, we must radically change the political climate first.
With no time left to debate the delusional dogmas of climate denialism, we must develop policies to break quickly and permanently from the carbon economy and invest in renewable energy and a far more resilient national infrastructure.
It's not too late to save a decent existence for our children and grandchildren on planet earth.
A recent study on the impact of rising sea levels caused by global warming found that Maryland will soon endure chronic inundation of our communities, a threat of devastation worse than that faced by any other state in the union but Louisiana.
We cant waste time aiming for anything less sweeping than the goal of getting off the deadly fossil fuels addiction completely.
Along the way, the OFF Act would focus on protecting vulnerable low-income communities by creating opportunities for well-paying, union jobs in new sectors like solar and wind. It would also require that the rest of the country follow Marylands lead in banning fracking, thus protecting public health and environmental integrity.
These visionary bills may seem to set an unrealistic goal, but, when you think about it, continuing on the current course of climate-altering carbon emissions is what is really proving every day to be an unrealistic energy strategy and a lethal peril to human civilization.

Got to hand it to the left. They love hyperbole.
Never let a crisis go to waste when they can manipulate their infantile supporters.
The man overestimates the power of man.
Raskin and Robinson... Their ignorance is stunning. The fools who elect them are equally ignorant. STFU and go away.
Dumbasses. They want us to think Glaciers collapse because they're shrinking when, in fact, they collapse, or, more accurately, calve, when they're growing.
Kind of like avalanches. Avalanches don't happen when the snowpack is melting, they happen when the snow piles up too high for it all to stick together. Think gravity and friction.
Having said that. Even if they were shrinking, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. If it wasn't for receding glaciers, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the marvelous landscapes they carved out like The Great Lakes, Niagara Falls, Yosemite Park, and The Grand Canyon.
Does this asshole own a car? It can be either gasoline or coal powered... doesnt matter.
Humm, During the Little Ice Age, what caused all those hurricanes which wrecked all those Spanish treasure Galleons? And what caused the eleven-year hurricane drought in Florida from 2005 until 2016?
How come that so-called enviromentalist never have those answers?
If leftist went back to subsistence farming and the horse and buggy ..definitely give up their patroium based lap tops and large screen tv’s and go off grid..then maybe I would take them half seriously...?
Nah, proba ly not.
These are not “record-shattering hurricanes” _ (a) our records of actual hurricane strength don’t go back very far at all, and (b) judging solely by the damage inflicted, numerous hurricanes have been more destructive.
Case in point: the Galveston hurricane of 1900, where 10,000 people died. That’s right: 10,000.
There was also a very severe hurricane that hit Miami in iirc the 1930s.
The reason these wackos don’t have answers for the lack of hurricanes during that 11 yr. period is because any “answers” they have for anything will only favor their viewpoints.
Add two more to the idiot list. Both Democrats.
Good place to start—stop printing these propaganda sheets on paper.
Even in modern times with good forecasting & better construction codes, Galveston is a bad place to be. Shirley you heard about Hurricane Ike in 2008?
We never had hurricanes until SUV’s caused global warming.
And the glaciers? They haven't been melting for thousands of years since the last ice age... Nope, no melting... ever.
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
translation: Impose a dictatorship in the name of Saving the Planet.
With heartfelt apologies to my conservative friends behind enemy lines in Communist Maryland...one can only hope.
Raskin is a puppet.
