Although 57 percent of Americans believe in celebrating Columbus Day, the late explorer Christopher Columbus is in the crosshairs of liberals again, more than 511 years after he died.
Among those targeting the late, great Italian navigator are Antifa and left-wing intellectuals, as well as the liberal governments of several U.S. cities who no longer acknowledge Columbus on his holiday, which is this coming Monday.
The violent partisans at Antifa have named Monday "Deface Columbus Day," hoping to see acts of vandalism against Columbus statues.
The famed Italian explorer stirs leftist passions primarily because of traditional hatred of Western culture. The Italian navigator and discoverer, a vaunted legend to many Italian-Americans, and Americans in general, was hired by the Spanish crown in 1492 to find a new route to Asia. Instead, Columbus found North America.

But hey...it works for the kids and all the government workers.
Monday is a good day to sit in front of a Columbus statue with a ****** baseball bat. I will bring sandwiches. Don’t f*** with us Italians’ holiday.
Of course we are Americans, not Italians. It’s just one day that we celebrate with a parade and everyone in New York is Italian for a day. Except and Antifa BLM and a bunch of other *********s
Dear God I know this is wrong to ask. But if my enemies attack me on Columbus Day please help me to put them in the hospital
The people of the distant past were compelled to leave bad and abusive conditions all across Europe. They freely came to America, from most countries of the world and thus today’s United States.
If TODAY”S descendents of those “seekers or a better life” are so abused and put upon in this country, I might suggest that their ROOT countries would happily welcome them back. As citizens of this country, they are most truly FREE to return “HOME.”
I’m sure they would be most happy there.
Most Americans reject leftist once they figure out who they really are.
The left wants to replace it with “Indigenous People’s Day” or the like.
Get ‘em, DP!!!
If Columbus had believed Eratosthenes' figures for the earth's circumference, he would have realized that he could not sail from Spain to Japan, so the inhabitants of the New World would have continued to enjoy their peaceful paradise. So maybe we should rename Columbus Day in honor of Eratosthenes to celebrate this "might have been."
What is usually overlooked is that 8 years later Pedro Cabral encountered Brazil (getting blown off course en route to India) so Europeans would have learned about lands to the west pretty soon, even if the Norwegians and Icelanders kept quiet about what they knew of Vinland.
"Indigenous" comes from Latin indigena, "native."
"People" comes ultimately from Latin populus.
"Day" is of Anglo-Saxon origin.
All three words are of Indo-European origin, none from a Native American language. When are they going to get on the ball and come up with an appropriate name?
And which “indigenous” language would they use to name it? The North American “Indigians” were constantly killing each other off and we don’t want to encourage tribal warfare!
“Its just one day that we celebrate with a parade and everyone in New York is Italian for a day.”

Wasn’t Columbus Portuguese? I suppose I could google that, but Freepers are more historically accurate than the google.
I troll liberals and tell them that Columbus Day should really be “Western Civilization” Day. The Columbus expeditions mark the beginning of a colonization of the Americas by Europeans and the introduction of Judeo Christian values in the New World. A major inflection point in history, the development of America effected every society on the planet.
that’s stupid. They tried the same crap for Christmas every damn year.
I’m sure he’s been reached out to. He’s stallig on his statue decision.
As for me, I’m swinging for the fences if anyone touches the statue.
Dont mess with a WOP’s holiday :)
This Irishman is behind you 100%. Bravo Italia! Bravo Christolo Colombo!
:)
We pack the bars too on St Patricks Day :)
Ah sure ‘n’ begorrah, tis a Son “O” The Sod ye are! Hey, you what happens when four Irishmen get together? A ‘’fifth’’ shows up.
In NYC you can see a lot of “Kiss Me I’m Italian” 3 leaf clover shirts on St Patrick’s Day and a few “Kiss Me I’m Jewish” . Everyone loves St Paddy’s Day.
