f a Facebook "like" is currency, many NFL teams saw their stock drop over the past several days.
Of the NFL's 32 teams, 28 saw a marked decrease in fan following on their team Facebook pages. The drop came after leaguewide demonstrations during the national anthem in Week 3 prompted by several rebukes from President Donald Trump.
Many teams had players lock arms or raise their fists while the anthem was performed. One or more players on 18 different teams took a knee; players on five teams sat on the bench; and three entire teams remained in the locker room.
In all, the audience among team Facebook pages decreased by 88,610, according to data compiled by Crowdtangle, a tool that tracks social media trends and analytics. All data is representative of figures accurate as of Sept. 26.
The three teams that did not take the field the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans saw some of the most precipitous drops.
In the two days following the protests (Sept. 25 and 26), the Steelers lost a total of 17,400 followers, the most of any team, and the Seahawks' total fell by 10,200. The Titans lost 4,100 followers, which represented the second highest percentage of their relative total of any team.
The New Orleans Saints saw the second-highest drop of 13,300 over the two-day span (5,100 on Sept. 25 and 8,200 the next day). The totals for most of the 28 teams dwarfed the attrition totals for recent months. For the Saints, their next highest total of followers lost in a single day was on Sept. 16 with 384.
Saints players Cameron Jordan and Drew Brees have said they've been working on a symbol of unity ahead of their Week 4 game against the Dolphins in London.
"We want to find something that we can do together, that shows unity and does not show division," Brees said. "I think we all are very much are on the same page as far as the cause is justified. But its just the means by which the, whatever you want to call it, the protest, the awareness is raised. How can we do that in a respectful manner?"
Any drop in followers, however, has little impact on the mammoth fanbases most teams possess. The aggregate total of the followings for all 32 teams easily clears 100 million, and none of the decreased totals equated to even a half a percentage point of a team's followers.
The Saints' drop of 13,300 only accounts for 0.33 percent of their total following roughly 4,030,000.
For over 35 years, everyone who knew me knew that for Christmas or my birthday, anything that was Black & Gold with a Fleur De Lis was the perfect gift.....This year, it saddens me to say I will request that no one buy anything from the NFL.
So don't worry about it, guys.
just keep up doing what you're doing.
As long as it remains hate America or an implicit hate whitey, the trends will continue the downward spiral. I don’t think the reaction has peaked yet. Some fans are hard core and hope it will blow over. Not likely IMHO.
We simply are not going to pay for Black overpaid athletes on steroids to desecrate out flag or our anthem to express their hate for our country and our police. That aint gonna happen .
The NFL better get this stopped and be very contrite about it or this thing is going to collapse the league. If they think fans are going to lock arms in solidarity with these sons of bitches they have lost their fricking minds. The only reason people are going to the games is that they have $3000 tied up in tickets and they dont want to waste the money but you take discretionary fans and they are leaving by the millions!!
I was so happy to vote “thumbs down” as well, I thought I would share! It felt good.
We can show unity...
Boycott!
Yep, it was indeed a defacto coverup by the NFL/Media that wouldn’t DARE go into detail about what happened.
Alinsky tactics work—choose your favorite one and have some fun!
Millionaire flag burners
“The Saints’ drop of 13,300 only accounts for 0.33 percent of their total following roughly 4,030,000.” Well then keep doing what you are doing. Keep telling the BLM/NFL paepernicking thug scumbags to keep disrespecting our culture, let’s see how that works out.
Oh. I said it tge other day. College football players are probably thinking oh man Im gonna have to study
>><<
Exactly. College players are going to see an imploding NFL and it will wake some of them up.
The Steelers have over 6 million followers on Facebook.
That’s less than a .2% drop.
Not a lot of positive vibes going on over...just saying 17,000 isn’t that much.
Rodger Goodell did this to them, that guy is the worst commissioner in the history of any sport. Ever. He flubs everything he does. He should have cracked down on Kapernick on day one with fines but he didn't. And it festered and grew until now it's metastasized. That fool. Now even the owners fear doing anything lest they incite their players and they are trapped in this hell with no way out.
Actually Trump threw them a lifeline. His tweet gave them a chance to pull a stunt (let's all link arms in unity while we STAND) and then quietly crack down on protests so that no more happened. Whew, it's over! Well they executed the first part (intentionally or otherwise) but already I hear Green Bay says they are going to protest on Thursday. Fools.
Ya. Sports is about the only option for many of them.
And it isn’t like there are millions of jobs in sports. Only the best of the best the cream of the crop get the million dollar salary as a player.
But they are shooting themselves in the foot.
My comment on Facebook:
I will not be watching the rest of the season. I’ve cancelled my NFL Red Zone subscription. These guys need to learn a hard lesson and fast. They’re being disrespectful to those that have worn the uniform and provided the freedom for the NFL and their jobs to exist. They’re being whiny bitches that have NO UNDERSTANDING of what TRUE TYRANNY looks like. They’re aligning themselves with a punk that took a knee wearing “pig police” socks. This is not brave or courageous. If they think they’re fighting “oppression” why not make a gesture after a touchdown or interception? No, they have to be petulant children and spit in the faces of those that enable them to play a game earning millions.
As for the ENTIRE TEAM of the Pittsburgh Steelers: you are a DISGRACE to the nation and the armed services. You should have stood by your OWN serviceman - an Army Ranger no less. Instead, you betrayed his sacrifice and demanded that HE cave to YOUR demands. Pathetic. Just so we’re quite clear, HE didn’t make YOU look bad. YOU made YOURSELVES look bad.
We need EMPTY stadiums and ZERO viewers. Simply not attending games won’t do it. Too much of the revenue comes through TV & advertising.
What pisses me off the most, is that as a naturalized citizen to this country, I can see this is being used to attack patriots, while many native born citizens don’t get how offensive this all really is. The Packers are now asking the fans to stand arm-locked (with the ‘team’) at the next game. This would make them participants in the protest as far as I’m concerned.
All we want is to switch off from reality for a few hours and enjoy a game. If the players want to turn it political and alienate the majority of their customers then they need to be spanked hard.

You can’t! Take your politics off the field. Shut up and play!
Yup. And the degrees that they get are probably not the best for landing a job.
College scholarships will dry up, too.
Sorry, I have a dog, I couldn’t read the whole article.
Were the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great Wars a spiritual war our Great Depression is our lives. Weve all been raised on television to believe that one day wed all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont. And were slowly learning that fact. And were very, very pissed off.
