Army Ranger Says He ‘Made a Mistake’ Standing For National Anthem Without His Team

Former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva was the ONLY Steeler to come out for the National Anthem on Sunday. He stood in the tunnel while the rest of the team hid in the locker room like disrespectful cowards. Villanueva stood with his hand over his heart and sang along with pride during the National Anthem.

The 28-year-old former Army Ranger is a bronze star recipient and served three tours in Afghanistan.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he noticed Villanueva during a preseason game because of the way he stood during the National Anthem, according to an article in NFL.com.

Imagine being Villanueva. He fought for this country and then has to play side by side with teammates who blatantly disrespect his service and the flag.

Alejandro Villanueva is being clever in exposing Coach Tomlin as the instigator.

It does.

A friend of mine packed away his towel last night. Another, a vet, is trying to decide if he should remain proud of his service (20 years) or his culture (African American).

He is well known as the “Flag Guy” where he lives. However, the pressure on him is rather intense to conform.

“As an Army Captain to another Army Captain: What the hell is your malfunction, jackass?”

May I suggest an alternative?

The Steelers are extraordinarily cowardly. Instead of coming out and taking a stand or a knee, they hid in the locker room. They “wanted to act as a team” instead as men. Do they also vote as a team? Do they let the team dictate their conscience. Cowardly entertainers. The only thing more pathetic is the “men” who worship them.

He said that he made his coach and the Steelers look bad because he decided to stand for the National Anthem rather than be in the locker room with the rest of the team.

One small point that needs to be corrected. More than once the article states the rest of the team was in the locker room. That is untrue. By Villanueva's own words, the rest of the team was 20 feet behind him in the tunnel.

Still disgraceful but simply more accurate.

A whole lot of people are now kicking themselves for not waiting a few days before buying Villanueva shirts.

Funny, you can hit your girlfriend, rape, and kill someone yet stand for an anthem and be torn apart.

No wonder Lefties like Islam. They are the same.

Villanueva did the right thing, standing for the anthem, his regrets and his idiot coach notwithstanding.

But the NFL just did.

I would suspect he is being shunned by his black teamates, which is just about everybody...also, I think this story is being very poorly reported...

So, it’s ok that koopernickle expresses HIS feelings, and beliefs, but not someone of the opposing view?

Who is that bunch hollerin’, “free speech”?

Apparently there was a DEFCON 1 spin control meeting at Art Rooney’s office yesterday. The plan was apparently to have Roethlisberger and Cam Heyward come out and say the team won’t do this again, and then to have Villanueva start backing away too. Not gonna work.

Also Villanueva has an endorsement deal with USAA. They probably got in his ear after getting ten thousand phone calls yesterday.

Still, sad that money and peer pressure can trump patriotism.

Some might have been in the locker room.

Or they might have been in the locker room in the beginning of the anthem and went into the tunnel during the anthem.

Almost all reports said the Steelers were in the locker room.
