During the playing of the National Anthem prior to the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Chicago Bears game on Sunday, left tackle Alejandro Villanueva was the only Steeler to come out and stand.
According to Pennlive.com, Villanuevas action caught teammates by surprise as it had been voted on a day earlier, and decided by a slim majority that the team would remain in the locker room.
I was looking for 100 percent participation, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said during his post-game news conference. We were going to be respectful of our football team.
On that basis, Fox Sports 1s Skip Bayless agreed that Villanueva a former Army Ranger with a distinguished service record in Afghanistan should not have come out for the Anthem.
It didnt work for him to step out of the tunnel, Bayless said during Mondays edition of Undisputed. If, in fact, you had all agreed, you had voted whether a majority or unanimously, to do this as a team to stay up in the tunnel until the Anthem was done. And Mike Tomlin was clear.
Baylesss colleague, Shannon Sharpe, agreed.
Teams, they always take the military mentality, because its all for one, one for all. Whatever we decide to do thats what were going to do. He went on his own. I get it. He was in the military. I commend him for his service.

It’s all about race with these brown nosers
They’re cowards, so afraid they’ll be called “racists” if they actually speak their minds
Just like not speaking out against Kaepernick in the first place. They’ll criticize others for non PC speech but defend any left winger’s, no matter how obnoxious.
ESPECIALLY if BLACK
“Douche canoe”
Heh, heh!
;^)

Villanueva stood up and made his statement about the controversy. The rest of the Steelers hid under their beds.
Typical Leftists whom drop dissent is the greatest patriotism like a hot potato when they don’t like the act of dissent.
Mike who? Oh... this Mike Tomlin...
well, he’s participating. LOL
In the name of social justice and in support of affirmative action, I am boycotting the NFL till 55% of the players are white, 30% Hispanic, 12% black and 1% native american and 2% asian.
“Kaepernick is a fan of Fidel Castro.”
Ironic, since Castro was so proud of his European background that he said it was worth being the illegitimate son of two white Spaniards than to have married parents of different ethnicities.
Castro’s Cuban army is one where the officers are white, the sergeants mulatto (Batista), and the private soldiers are black.
Kaepernick like Obama has one white parent so I guess it doesn’t matter much.
It obviously wasn't terribly important to Mike Tomlin at the time. He was standing on the sideline with three other coaches while the national anthem was being played.
Remember he who controls the remote controls the NFL and ESPN. Keep it simple people we own them.
Hey Tomlin....your football team deserves NO RESPECT...NONE!!! But, our FLAG does, you creep!
But the lobs said it’s all about personal beliefs. These lib dingbat sports reporters are showing it’s should only be allowed if it agrees with their beliefs
Skip Bayless is an old white guy making millions. He knows he’s career is over if he deviates from the progressive narrative on race. So he happily prostitutes himself to the cause.
That man is a patriot who served honorably. I think 99% of Americans would salute him.
I heard that sales of jerseys with his name on it have skyrocketed.
The NFL is incredibly stupid. They do not seem to understand their clientele.
castro and che both thought poorly of blacks..
Never right to criticize, Skip, until you walked in a mans shoes. Sure he saw enough with three tours of war duty to make your guts come out. I see those who express their opinion against your opinion is in the wrong.
Steelers took the butt to the national anthem, sitting on theirs.
On ESPN this morning Stephen A. Smith removed all doubt he’s one of the biggest racists in the media. He of course sided with the filthy-rich BLM crowd mascarading as players, “protesting” on NFL time and said Trump was not fit to be president. Fox loves to have him on. Hopefully Hannity will quit kissing his rear and never again have this Trump-hater on his program. Would love to see the NFL and ESPN fold at the same time. Leftist politics have taken over professional football and damn sure have taken over ESPN.
