WOW Cafe & Wingery of St. Bernard in Chalmette took to Facebook on Sunday afternoon to say it won't televise the Saints vs. Panthers game after a group of players participated in a protest during the national anthem.
"I apologize to all of our guests but we will not be viewing the Saints game today in house," the post reads. "Some of our local players chose to sit during the National Anthem, which will not be supported or praised at WOW. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you."
Lindsey Manasco, a 31-year-old manager, waitress and bartender at the Chalmette-located wingery, confirmed the restaurant's decision.
"Thats disrespectful to the United States," she told The Advocate.
Manasco said that only the St. Bernard location was boycotting the game so far, and she hadnt heard of any other nearby businesses following suite.
The decision was ultimately made by Brooke Anastasiadis, the owner of the St. Bernard restaurant, Manasco said.
Anastasiadis was motivated in part because she wanted to show solidarity with members of the military, police officers and firefighters, all of whom are given a 20 percent discount in the store when the dine in uniform.
Manasco added that the WOW restaurant in Chalmette would continue to boycott the game any time the Saints kneel.
The Saints are from New Orleans and we are at Chalmette, and we want to support them, but if they kneel or sit we are not going to show the game, Manasco said.
She reported that a couple of tables walked out when diners learned that the game wouldnt be shown, but that most customers are agreeing with us.
Ten Saints sat on the bench during the national anthem, and four more players who stood near the group in a show of support before the team's game.
Rafael Bush, Kenny Vaccaro, Chris Banjo, Sheldon Rankins, Alex Okafor, Cameron Jordan, Adrian Peterson, Alvin Kamara, Brandon Coleman and Mark Ingram all sat. Thomas Morstead, Marshon Lattimore, Craig Robinson and Coby Fleener stood nearby with hands on teammates' shoulders.
The Saints and Pelicans organizations released a statement roughly half an hour before the start of Sunday's game, saying that the comments were "disappointing and inappropriate." The statement expressed support for the players, and also expressed the team's respect for the flag and the anthem.
The Saints' decision to sit during the anthem is part of a league-wide protest in backlash to comments made by President Donald Trump this weekend.
Staff writer Della Hasselle contributed to this report.
I think it more of an example of President Trump inadvertently sidetracking his own goals. Using Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders as an analogy. Rather then leading us up San Juan Hill and winning a big prize (tax reform, repeal of Obamacare, the revocation of Hillary’s Russian uranium deal, the investigation of Hillary, Bill, Obama, and the Clinton Foundation, the building of the wall) we are instead hooting and hollering as we ride willy nilly up Mouse Poop Mound (Making NFL players stand during the Pledge of Allegiance).
Black America is the biggest loser of our open borders; industries would work overtime to create a much-needed workforce from our population if they couldn’t simply open the border spigot whenever they wanted workers.
The NFL was already facing a demographic nightmare in this country (Hispanics and Asians, the “replacement Americans”, aren’t really fans); this is hastening an already inevitable demise. The league will survive, but will more resemble MLS or NHL in terms of ticket sales and such; the heyday of American football was already past when this BS erupted.
I for one am happy to see so many mutants in the public eye admit they aren’t Americans in any sense of the word.
“I for one am happy to see so many mutants in the public eye admit they arent Americans in any sense of the word.”
Maybe it will wake more people from their trances.
Yep - they have no idea and yesterday they made such a rousing statement of support for the ingrate race-bating America haters that they likely lost millions. I won’t tune any part of any game this season and tweeted Goodell to be sure he sees some of our message as he tries to commit business suicide.
Done.
Get a clue. It’s not about the player protests.
Definitely; they are also probably adding voters to Trump for 2020 as the left can’t hide how they’ve destroyed/we’ve lost our country.
People are beginning to burn their NFL items. Let the NFL go the way of disco.
Wise. I hadn’t thought of that.
Now this is what is called a respectful protest.
Sarita’s Grill & Cantina in Denham Springs: No NFL games on our TVs ‘until further notice’
Advocate staff report Sep 25, 2017 - 6:27 pm (0)
Sarita’s Grill & Cantina Denham, 151 Bass Pro Blvd., Denham Springs
Another Louisiana eatery, this one in Denham Springs, has announced it will no longer televise NFL football after many players staged a protest during the national anthem on Sunday.
Sarita’s Grill & Cantina Denham posted Monday on its Facebook page that the ban on NFL games and the NFL network is “until further notice.”
“We respect everyones right to freedom of speech,” the post says. “However, we do not support anyone that disrespects our Flag, our Country, and the people who have fought and/or died for the freedoms that we have.”
Dozens of initial comments attached to the post as of Monday evening expressed support for the decision. But others posted later in the evening took issue with the eatery.

Except that that wasn’t in your post I was responding to:
“I think it more of an example of President Trump inadvertently sidetracking his own goals. Using Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders as an analogy. This is going to be a very big - mountain sized - pile of mouse poop by the end of the week.
Trump will have accomplish his goal of hurting the lamestream media - in the revenue stream.
Well, actually it is. Instead of focusing on what’s important, some of which I listed, we are sidetracked on the issue of player’s protests. In the meantime the last feeble attempt to even just modify Obamacare is going down in flames in the Senate.

Wow Cafe in Chalmette takes ‘a risk’ with anti-NFL post, but it paid off

Brook Songy Anastasiadis’ Facebook post was a short one, but it was to the point: Her restaurant, a franchise of Wow Cafe and Wingery in Chalmette, would not be showing the New Orleans Saints game. Why? Because some players had chosen to sit during the National Anthem.
Anastasiadis’ PR representative called the post “a risk,” but response to it was immediate and almost overwhelming.
In the days since the Facebook post went online Sunday (Sept. 24), the restaurant has received thousands of messages and posts, emails, phone calls and even flower deliveries sent by people as far away as Alaska, said Ray Sutherland, the PR representative. Several well-wishers have even offered to donate money to the restaurant and its staff, he said, but those offers have been declined.
Since some members of the Saints chose to sit during the anthem, a move that was part of a larger protest over the weekend after President Donald Trump chastised the NFL for not handling those who would sit or kneel during the anthem with a firmer hand, a debate has sprung up over one of the country’s greatest pastimes: Watching football.
But there was no debate for Anastasiadis, according to Sutherland, who said he’s worked with the Wow franchise owner’s family for about a decade. She was a Saints fan, but the athletes who sat out the national anthem in protest of racial injustices in this country crossed a line for her.
“She had been seeing other city’s teams (kneeling or sitting) for awhile, but it was just something about the team that you grew up loving with all your heart, and you see them do something that you’re steadfastly against — that was her reaction,” Sutherland said. “And when she did that last Sunday morning right before kickoff, I can assure you she did not have any clue what was about to happen.”
The reaction to the post, which has since been shared nearly 3,000 times and reacted to on Facebook about 5,500 times, even prompted some patrons to drive in from as far away as Hattiesburg, Miss., or Shreveport just so they could financially support Anastasiadis’ restaurant.
