Alejandro Villanueva, a Pittsburgh Steeler and U.S. Army Ranger veteran who deployed three times to Afghanistan, was the only Steeler to leave the Steeler's locker room to go to the field to show his respect for the anthem, the flag and those who have served, are serving and who have died defending the American way of life.
The rest of the team stayed in the locker room to avoid controversy.

With a search of his name on Twitter, as he doesn’t seem to have an account, I SAW ONLY PATRIOTIC TWEETS in favor of him. Calling him a hero, shedding a tear for the sight of him having the courage to be patriotic. It warms my heart. Maybe there is yet hope for the USA. I thank him for all his service, even today, where he alone attempts to show the meaning our anthem and flag have, and why we gather together in the unique HONOR each time we engage in sporting pastimes. Symbols mean things.
President Donald J. Trump continues to make known his stance on NFL players kneeling. http://fxn.ws/2wLjode
I am glad to see the Browns stood and were respectful.
Steelers loss!!!
God Bless you Alejandro
And tell the TV local stations that carry the NFL games that you will boycott the stations sponsors as well until they get the msg and drop the games.
How do we get in contact with Alejandro Villanueva to show our support ?
Let it become so. The false god of professional sports has been allowed to run rampant for far too long through the US. Even the Europeans don’t idolize their professional sportsidiots like the US has.
And they lost! Woo hoo...

That’s what I think is shameful. Not one teammate to stand beside him.
While I do not endorse the tactic of not standing for the National Anthem, the Steelers management may have hit upon a compromise solution.
All the players who cannot or will not participate in the flag and anthem ceremony for SJ reasons will remain in the locker room until called on to the field. That way their “conscience” is honored, they are denied the opportunity to stir controversy through their actions, and there is no photographic and video record that entangles the team brand in the issue and possibly suggests, rightly or wrongly, that team management endorses their actions. If a player, without intention to deceive, wants to take the field to honor the flag and anthem, they can.
Basically, if you wear the team uniform, you are expected to model behavior the team approves of. If you can’t, then you are not authorized to be on the field until the objectionable portion of the game is over. And the hammer to enforce this is their contracts and the power of the team management to impose fines and penalties on any player who does not obey
Villanueva is going to face criticism from his team mates, the sympathetic liberal/left press, and the SJW crowd. Being a US Army Ranger and a combat veteran, I am sure he can take the heat.
Thank you. I am at my kids baseball games today, but I understand the Bears also stood as a team. I would encourage all FReepers to show their support to the American patriots who stood for our country!

An Army Ranger is an exceptional person to begin with. A Ranger with THREE tours in Afghanistan is an EXCEPTIONAL Patriot. He’s seen more about freedom and sacrifice than any of his bratty, privileged, selfish, childish teammates could ever hope to see. Rangers are not REMF, they go to the action, get into the fight and prevail more often than not. GOB BLESS HIM!!!!!
Fixed.

This starts an interesting train of thought, Spktyr...his fellow team members may not give him the protection he needs on certain plays or figure out some other way to harm or impede him during a game just to get back at him for not being “in solidarity” with them.
Have the spineless commissioner and owners thought of how letting the radical players continue their activism unchecked may split the teams into hateful and resentful “sides”, no longer working as cohesive teams?
This whole “anthem” thing may spin out of control and cause so many bad effects that I don’t even want to think about it.....it could become so harmful, chaotic, crazy and ruinous.

—VERY— interesting points; continuing that line of thought:
what happens when someone gets seriously injured as a result of a (supposed) team-mate’s deliberate negligence ?
