ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The Circle K clerk who shot an accused armed robber, says she was suspended for two weeks.
Reporter Megan Cruz spoke with the clerk Tuesday afternoon. Jennifer Wertz said she's upset.
She claims robberies happen all the time and yet workers are told they can't defend themselves.
Wertz said she had her gun with her Monday because she was supposed to work until 10 p.m. She said she feels uncomfortable walking to her car at night.
Wertz put her gun in her pocket after she heard that another nearby convenience store was just robbed. She said she was not behind the counter when a man barged in with a gun.
"We are not to chase or provoke. We are just supposed to stand there and give them what they want and they leave," she said.
"So why didn't you do that yesterday?" Cruz asked.
"I'm sick and tired of being a sitting duck," Wertz said. "He pointed the gun at my face, I grabbed my gun from my pocket, I cocked it and I shot."

So waddaya spec- It’s San Francisco!
I have long been in favor of the "Mandatory Armed Store Clerk act" for convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores.
A requirement for employment in such businesses should be that you have a concealed carry license, and that you be armed if you are at work.
Make sure robbers understand they have a very good chance of getting shot to death, and they will stop thinking about robbing stores.
New Mexico.
New Mexico.
You are going to start seeing this more frequently, as our court system has turned into a merry-go-round for violent criminals. Regular people are getting tired of playing the victim and getting shot or worse. To the clerk, good job. Get a job somewhere else if you can!
Police later said that the robber was carrying an Airsoft gun. Maybe clerk could have let him rifle the cash drawer with the Monopoly money or the stacks of Venezuelan bills whatever they’re called that have to worth less than their weight in Kleenex.
She needs to find another job someplace else. Being suspended is not being fired, but a bond of trust and an expectation of support has been broken. Such a manager is going to be looking for a next reason to get rid of her anyway.
Illegal I bet.
Good for her. Always protect yourself. F Circle K for not standing by their employee.
New Mexico...
How many defenseless workers were herded into some part of the business and executed by robbers?
We call our local Circle K the Stop N’ Rob
Should have a sign on the door that instead of “No Guns Allowed” should have a sign: “Employees may or may not have guns. You decide if you want to rob us”
Commercial liability insurance policies often prohibit the use of firearms by employees under any circumstances.
Hmmm, since there are so many building codes anyway...how about an extra that requires a small fortified area where an armed guard could shoot at would be robbers? It should be constructed such that there should be no way for a thug to verify if a guard is there...except the hard way.
It’s Albuquerque New Mexico.
Lemme percolate on that one for a minute.
The left does not want you to defend yourself.
How about making it illegal for employers to deny a person’s constitutional rights?
