From a loft in San Francisco in 1967, a 21-year-old named Jann S. Wenner started a magazine that would become the counterculture bible for baby boomers. Rolling Stone defined cool, cultivated literary icons and produced star-making covers that were such coveted real estate they inspired a song.
But the headwinds buffeting the publishing industry, and some costly strategic missteps, have steadily taken a financial toll on Rolling Stone, and a botched story three years ago about an unproven gang rape at the University of Virginia badly bruised the magazines journalistic reputation.
And so, after a half-century reign that propelled him into the realm of the rock stars and celebrities who graced his covers, Mr. Wenner is putting his companys controlling stake in Rolling Stone up for sale, relinquishing his hold on a publication he has led since its founding.

Any ideas of who will buy it?
Maybe they can borrow some money from Puerto Rico.
Dr. Bevil of Amazon & WaPo infamy?
Abandoning a print media dinosaur.
What will Dr. Hook think?
Why did Puerto Rico come to mind with you?
Good riddance to a piece of liberal trash.
(Rollin stone) Gonna see my picture on the cover
(Stone) Gonna buy five copies for my mother (wa wa)
(Stone) Gonna see my smilin' face
On the cover of the Rollin' Stone

For one dollar like Newsweek?
I will for one dollar; Time was in the same circumstance and that was all they were worth. I’ll give them two dollars, then put the entire thing in the trash where it belongs.
The Stone had some very good articles when they concentrated on good music journalism. Unfortunately, as with all leftists, the infection became terminal, management could not delineate between writing and leftist hatred and propaganda. Who was it that said “liberalism is a mental disease?” Good bye to a once great publication that lost its way. I will shed no tears; you reap what you sow—somehow they never learned.
It was important magazine once. Not anymore. They drove away the old Boomers and X-ers who subscribed to it (throwing us a bone every now and then with a cover story on Rush or AC/DC) and they weren't able to replace us with younger readers, who just don't buy magazines.
And not just Rolling Stone. Pretty much all print media is facing the same fate.
I bid $0.25.
Such a fantastic magazine in the days of Tom Wolfe, P.J. O’Rourke and of course Hunter Thompson.
I would call Snappy Sammy Smoot.

That’s my concern as well! And the song will mean much less if ‘Rolling Stone’ goes out of business. Sure, I’ll still be playing it full blast while rolling down the highway (while singing along). But it won’t be the same.

“And not just Rolling Stone. Pretty much all print media is facing the same fate. “
I used to spend $40-50/mo. on magazines back in the day.
In the past 10 years I may have bought a dozen total.
The mega grocery nearby has a mag aisle that I recently discovered and about 2/3 of the titles I’ve never seen before. Everything from knitting to guns, travel, cooking and a bunch more.
Remember the puff piece article and cover they did on the Boston Marathon bomber??? Holy toledo, made that dude out to be some kind of rock star. Really?? That told me that they have horse blank editorial judgement.
