Man, ESPN just can't seem to get it together.
In light of the Jemele Hill controversy this week (in which the host of SC6 formerly SportsCenter tweeted that Donald Trump is a white supremacist), it's helpful to review all of the problems the media juggernaut has created for itself. In March, I wrote The Top 5 Reasons ESPN's Ratings Are in Freefall. Things have only gotten worse since that time, with over 100 highly paid on-air personalities and other employees having been laid off in April in a cost-cutting move.
ESPN seems to want to continue to double down on everything it's doing wrong. The results are predictable for anyone who isn't on the mothership. It's inconceivable that parent company Disney is pleased with ESPN's steadfast refusal to reverse course.
Here are five more reasons the network is failing:
1. Monday Night Football ratings are still down
...
2. ESPN isn't entertaining
...
3. The model is antiquated nobody needs SportsCenter anymore
...
4. They're doubling down on alienating potential audiences
...
5. Yes, people are noticing the double standards

If you like to watch sports, instead of idiots yammering about sports (I aleahs hated SportsCenter), Fox Sports 1 is WAY better than ESPN for baseball and college baseball.
I realized today that I really hate listening to women on sports panels. Seriously, as a woman, I find it offensive. What the hell do any of them know about playing football and why must we listen to them blather on about something they’ve never experienced? A woman can be a fan, yes, but she is not an expert on the game. It would be like listening to male “experts” blather on about giving birth.
Witness their treatment of Robert K. Lee last month, when they pulled him off calling a game because his name might offend the SJW's. (He is asian, and therefore politically incorrect, and he goes by his first and last names. I found his middle initial in his contact information).
>> It’s inconceivable that parent company Disney is pleased with ESPN’s steadfast refusal to reverse course.
Disney is morally bankrupt, and deserves no patronage from any self-respecting citizen. ESPN is a reflection, not an aberration.
How many Colt 45 ads can they run?
Tucker Carlson nailed it the other day: Endless Stupid Political Nagging.
Maybe the Thunderbird brand can come back?
Oh, your bad.
I can’t stand talking heads. I DON’T care what they think. During a game I want play-by-play, maybe some color, and that is IT.
And they should start covering halftime shows. I LIKE marching bands. I DON’T like inane chatter.
“I dont see NFL ratings going back to where they were before, with all this disrespecting of the flag and the national anthem.”
Technically, I think it could be done. They’d have to use a major ad campaign and consistently do some things I think the players and commentators are simply constitutionally unable to pull off. Essentially, they’d all have to out Tebow Tebow. Also, the fact that they would no longer be spouting the Leftist narrative would mean the Leftists would attack them. The Leftists I have known were not sports fans, but they can be loud and distracting. To pull off stopping the slide in ratings and the reduction in, say, the NFL’s income, would require a major, coordinated effort of newscasters, players, owners and top level media back-office types. Too many of the people involved have their own agenda. That agenda has caused the slide and those infected won’t change for love or for money.
6. They’ve rendered “Sunday Night Baseball” unwatchable - but all of their baseball coverage sucks equally.
What kind of a name is Jemele?
Most likely it’s a combination of part of her momma name and part of her daddy name.
I see them on the tube at the health club, with the sound down. They gesture like their genitals are being clawed by angry cats. I can’t hear what they’re saying, but they sure are emphatic.
Hmmmm...given your premise, it's ESPN & Disney that can/will be eaten by their targeted 13% of the population.
So true!
I have SlingTV Blue + ROKU and it includes the NFL Network.
No politics
No shouting
10-15 minute video recaps of all games
Hollywood is headed to the same place as ESPN
I dont know what I am going to do during college basketball season since I am fan and they have so many games on.
“Is there a Fox Sports Channel...”
Yes, and a Fox Sports website. Sadly, they are just as leftist as ESPN. I visited the Fox Sports website a week ago. It was almost entirely SJW angled stories-predominantly Colin Kaepernick and how he is getting screwed.
