Spent a week in Anguilla some years ago. Our fabulous housekeeper was from Dominica, and very proud of her homeland.
Thanks so much.(((((Hugs))))
However, nowadays Puerto Rico has $250B in housing and if that substantially destroyed, that might be a $100B loss. I think that's very much worst case, but it could be a 100% of GDP loss. Big difference from 50% of GDP loss in 1928 (a lot less stuff to lose).
.
You know, the great and terrible thing about life is it goes on regardless of what happens.
We are all concerned and have donated and hurt for our fellow Americans in TX and FL.
But you get involved in life and you get distracted.
Thank you for reminding us that the recovery has just begun.
LOL You MUST be mistaken... I heard this afternoon that this was the strongest storm EVER to hit PR.... EVER! /s
Gov. Kenneth Mapp said the National Weather Service said to expect a storm surge of six to nine feet.....Along with sea levels up to nine feet higher than normal, there will be waves as high as 25 feet on the southern shore of the island.
The north shore of St. Thomas as Hurricane Maria draws near.....
in 1685 recon planes and satellites could help us compare those storms to this one
this one os obviously stronger then those....
besides the latest Newsweek(or was it time) cover says these storms are getting stronger
Good heavens, 408 is an incredible picture. You wouldn’t want looking out the window and seeing that to be your first indication that you were about to get clobbered.
Thank you for noticing.
St Thomas is well outside the destructive winds of Maria (as are all the other islands hit by Irma. The destructive winds extend about 40 miles from the center of Maria. Hard to tell exactly with the concentric eyewalls, but the winds in the inner eye wall are about 5-10 miles wide.
That’s for sure....
Mayor of San Juan said today that the people needed to be looking at no electricity for 4 months since the infrastructure was very weakened ‘before’ Irma...now they’re facing Maria as well....
Interesting she said that ‘what’s NEW’ is the communication lines are open with the US Gov. and she feels like someone is on the other end listening to them...
Hurricane Sandy and Wilma came in late October.....so we could even see more Hurricanes as these before out of the season....
The 68 knot winds (75 mph) extend to the NE by 50 nautical miles (57 Statute Miles approx.)
Go here for the radar.

Pondering what life would be like without power for 2, 3, 4 months...
There were some people in SW MS who lost power with Katrina and didn’t get power again till 2nd week in November. Just sayin’. Lots of rural above ground lines, lots of things to fix.
