LOOK: Stadium is half-empty for Colts-Rams regular season opener in Los Angeles
CBS Sports ^ | Sept 13, 2017 | John Breech

If NFL fans in Los Angeles are excited about the Rams this year, they have a funny way of showing it. The L.A. Coliseum looked nearly empty for the team's home opener against the Colts on Sunday, and let's just say that everyone watching at home seemed to notice.

When the game kicked off, former Colts punter Pat McAfee was one of the first people to point out how empty the stadium looked.

Not even the lure of a $6 ticket was enough to get Rams fans to the game. That's right, all you needed was six dollars to attend Sunday's game, and even that wasn't enough to get fans through the doors...

True. The protests, the thuggish attitude of a lot of players, the league enabling them, are the primary causes by far. But that doesn’t mean other things aren’t adding to it.

8th grade football games in ala-freaking-bama do NOT outdraw the los angeles rams. ever.

It was not what he said. Even an 8th grader can read!

it was a damned stupid thing to say.

You mean, what you said about the Rose Bowl?

why you 8th grade fetishists...

you? huh? and you continue to show that 8th graders are smarter than you!

it’s exactly what he said. and he was wrong. I simply pointed it out.

I’ve obviously provoked some 8th graders from appaloosa. I can only hope that the 50,000 fans in attendance at every jr. high football game aren’t also having a temper tantrum.

YOU ARE A LIAR! and indeed, you are the one having a temper tantrum.

one more time...

What he said was, "Looks like the crowd for 8th grade football in this part of Alabama."

you’re related to bill cinton, aren’t you? definition of “is”, and all that? It’s clearly what he said.

I just can’t dumb this down any further for you. you either understand it, or it’s just lost on you. and it’s pretty obvious which one of those things is happening here.

as far as temper tantrums go, I’m not the one that is caps locking.

You're the dummy that doesn't know the difference between the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl, not me.

That same LA Coliseum was packed the night before for the UT Longhorn/USC Trojans game. THAT was a great game of football.

Live sporting events are overrated. It’s expensive, uncomfortable, harder to follow. Hard to find people to go with. Traffic is usually terrible.

When you can sit in your living room with 4K, a six pack, and chips and salsa that costs less then a small Coke at the stadium, why does anyone even really want to attend a pro-sports game?

I am a massive hockey fan and save some money to go to a playoff game every couple years just to experience it. But to attend one every night or every week? Bah. No thanks.

Perhaps, but the merger was only announced in early June of '66. That left seven months to prepare for and hype the game, during which Rozelle had to scramble like Tarkenton to a) secure a Congressional monopoly exemption and b) secure a site.

He wanted a warm site, being from L.A. himself. (The first six NFLCG's in Pete's commissionership took place in frigid weather, even in 1962 in NYC, not known for Packer weather - maybe that's why GB won that day.). Rozelle wanted the Rose Bowl for SB I. The Pasadena city fathers and the ToR cmte. didn't want pro football played on their hallowed patch. So Rozelle settled for the LAMC thanks to his Ram connections, and the site was announced only about a month before the game.

That left not a lot of time to properly hype America's new sports tradition.

Forget what the media says, forget the excuses from the NFL, AMERICANS don’t like it when our country is disrespected. So, they - players - have their rights of free speech. Well, we also have our rights to ours, called consequences. God Bless America!!!

You are exactly right. The NFL is reaping what it has sown.

The arrogant jerks protesting don’t give a rat’s butt about how this affects the people who work st the stadium. The guy selling hot dogs and beer is going to be hurt by the low attendance, but the rich players couldn’t care less how their antics harm others.

That is an excellent point. The pampered brats just don't care about the "little people."
