The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

At least, I THINK that’s the annual one. Maybe not. As I said, preachers don’t always tell the truth.
The ability to accurately model and accurately predict any process is dependent upon understanding the mechanisms/determinants that define that process. There are many, many more unknown variables in climate science than there are in predicting the path of a hurricane.
Jose is going to get caught up in the same upper level. Will not make it to the USA.
Those structures must have been well built. The only that really failed on them was the roof. Put on a new roof and gut and redo the inside(water damage) and they are good to go. Better than starting from scratch. Still devastating though.
Short term, she has a lot of bath water to work with, and not just in the Florida Straits. Her circulation reaches into the Northern Caribbean (shrimp boil water), the eastern Gulf (egg poaching water) and the Bahamas (veggie blanching water). So there is fuel all over that she can tap into, she has well-defined outfloW

That had to be absolutely horrifying. Glad you and your family came through it unscathed.
Two years ago, the Rowlett tornado passed within two miles of my house. 850 houses in my town were flattened within minutes. My wife and I actually stood outside watching the transformers blow, but we never saw the funnel cloud because the air was so thick with rain.
Drunk update from the Keys.

Very boring.
What it does not show is upper level currents.
“Get Zello!”
I plan to load it tomorrow. I copied your other post of the channel to listen to.
That is not good is it? Signifies intensifying?
Yep, bigly.
The annual one was started in 1952 according to the website for the National Day of Prayer. Roosevelt was the first to call for one at a specific time and for a specific reason. Technology made that one possible on a large scale.
South eyewall looks weak.
When we got to the only 7 miles of pavement — at Whitehorse Junction, I think — I almost fell to my knees and kissed it.
Ain't that the truth. I could tell stories for hours.
The eye does two Jose like travel loops at the end of that run. Possibley interacting with that new red mass you mention.
Jose knows where to go - Mexico.
After carefully reading and considering all of the information on the FR hurricane threads, I have arrived at the following prediction: at some point the hurricane will do something.
Sent my son a copy of the latest from Recon because he was a C130 crew chief for 20 years in AF.
He said he worked on that plane (5302) along with 5301 when they were on loan from Keesler AFB for training. The 96 is the first year it went into service. Said he was glad to see it was still in action.
We had 2 cars and two tents. 7 children.
