The NFL opened its 2017 season Thursday night, in much the same way that it played out the 2016 season. The game featured the team that won the final game of the year last season, the game was high-scoring with plenty of offense, the game featured an anthem protest, and the leagues ratings went down. The game between the Chiefs and the Patriots drew a 14.6 overnight rating on NBC. That rating is down nearly two full points from last years 16.5 number for the Panthers-Broncos opener, and more than three points down from the Steelers-Patriots opener in 2015.
Why, the steep decline?
While the ratings have clearly trended down for a number of seasons, last nights game did feature an anthem protest from Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters, and its entirely likely that many tuned-out after seeing that:

Deeper in the article there is this nugget: >>Instead, its more likely that NFL fans are following through on their warnings of last year. Specifically, the warning where 44% of fans said they would stop watching the NFL if the anthem protests continued. That poll, backed-up by the J.D. Power survey which showed that most fans cited the anthem protests as the main reason for why they stopped watching the league.<<
I didn’t even realize the season has started. No /s
Our family is boycotting the NFL. College ball is what we follow now.
It’s SO UNFAIR.
I love TWO sports. Boxing, which is on the decline due to UFC.
And football. And they have to act like @@@holes AND the NFL is a liberal bastion which makes NO SENSE from a business point of view!!!
I wont watch a game where LESSER, MUCH LESSER men than those the song was about, many of whom died, disrespect them.
How many of these ghetto lotto talents even KNOW what the song is about?

It is the storms that Trump caused silly.
It was bad enough to watch grown men, REAL MEN, being forced to run around in pink...but I did stick with them.
But when a bunch of multi-millionaires decided to tell me that I was responsible for their dreaded lives in this country, that was GAME OVER for me.
The OWNERS asked for this, by not, apparently, showing the slightest bit of interest in what their fans thought.
...and now the owners will pay, BIG TIME.
There’s a simple solution, if just a couple team owners put their money where their mouth is; Any player protesting in their venue will be immediately ejected from the facility.
I could see Jerry Jones getting behind this in Dallas, but don’t know enough about other owners to say.
The implication will be if you bring protesting players to my facility, you will not be allowed to avail your team of their talents in that game, strengthening the home field advantage.
Just a couple of losses will put an end to this shit.

Ah, you’ve been trolling Jennifer Lawrence, eh?
can an owner even do such a thing?
About the only thing that an owner could do...is tell the coach to bench the guy...lessening his value...and helping the team make a decision at the end of the year to let the guy go. In this scenario...no team will touch the guy, and you slowly filter out the ‘actors’.
The owners have got to be wondering, “how do we get out of this mess!!!!”
More entertaining and gratifying than watching the NFL-BLM league. Electric football brings back memories of better days for the sport, days when players would never have dreamed of such buffoonish displays — when such un-patriotism would have been strongly condemned BY -—OTHER-—PLAYERS!!!
Honest.
I heard the following story:
[St Peter tells Jesus this in early August 2017]Of course, it is just a story...St Peter came to Jesus and said, "people are paying too attention to football in places like Texas and Florida as well as others -- especially on Sundays."
Jesus responded: "The Father and I will send 50 inches of rain to Houston, Texas the last week in August. Then the Father will hit Florida with a major Hurricane, plus two other hurricanes, in the first full week of September. The Father said he would emphasize the point with a REALLY BIG EARTHQUAKE and a tsunami."
St Peter responded: "I expect quite a few of them will get on their knees and pray... Has the Father said anything about North Korea?"...
If they are like Michael Bennett (Seahawks DE), they want “justice.” Here’s a guy who still believes the “hands up, don’t shoot” lie. Totally ignorant of the facts, then whines when he does not obey police orders, takes off running like he is guilty of something, then gets handcuffed by police. Well, Michael, what did you expect the police to think when you did that? Michael, racist that he is, thinks it was because he was black. But, wait! Why didn’t the rest of the black people get handcuffed??? For the BLM folks, facts do not matter.
Yep - I may watch a few games this year but will not watch any where a player has refused to honor the flag/anthem at any time during the season - might mean I get to watch a Cowboy’s game early on......
Don't you think every owner in the NFL would ban the top five players on the opposing team for any reason if they could get away with it?
Here’s my plan. I turn on the game and watch the opening ceremonies. If players don’t stand I turn off the game. Comcast etc. know how many are watching and when. If enough people turned off games at the same time advertisers would take note.
