After Siding With Dems, Trump Responds to GOP Criticism With a Reminder
Townhall.com ^ | September 8, 2017 | Courtney O'Brian

Republicans on Capitol Hill are surprised and "confounded" that the leader of their party, President Trump, sided with top Democrats in the debt ceiling debate this week, hiking it for three months.

He even earned a bit of rare praise from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Then, Trump twisted the knife even further by taking the advice of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in regards to DACA. At her urging, the president tweeted out a rather compassionate message for illegal immigrants who currently benefit from the program. They don't have to worry during the six-month delay, Trump told them.

What gives, the GOP wondered.

Trump, hearing the criticism, immediately pounced on the opportunity to send this reminder.

Republicans, sorry, but I've been hearing about Repeal & Replace for 7 years, didn't happen! Even worse, the Senate Filibuster Rule will....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017

...never allow the Republicans to pass even great legislation. 8 Dems control - will rarely get 60 (vs. 51) votes. It is a Repub Death Wish!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 8, 2017

In other words (those that can't fit in a tweet), if Republicans failed so miserably in regards to health care - something they've been screaming about for seven years - how can they be trusted to enact meaningful tax reform and rein in our debt?

A few Republican leaders, who although admit they were taken aback by Trump's reaching out to Democrats, acknowledged that this is an OK short term solution. House Speaker Paul Ryan told the press Thursday that while not ideal, it is "perfectly reasonable and rational."

On Twitter, the president urged Republicans "to start the Tax Reform/Tax Cut legislation ASAP."

"Hurry!"

I do not get “demoralized base.” I am not demoralized and I am in the base. In fact I am energized to see our president twisting the progs to his own ends. This is no midget we have put in office. This is Machiavelli on steroids. If he keeps his priorities straight, those he honed as a businessman, we will MAGA together.

Schumer is not owed a favor. Trump is, by Schumer and Pelosi.

Trump is doing 2 things here: A) he’s giving himself leverage with the GOP do nothing congress and B) he’s giving himself legitimacy with Democrat voters. Once they start working with him they’ve accepted that they lost the election. The last 12 months of freakouts about the Russians and Nazis is mass hysteria from a group of people who don’t want to admit that they lost.

Recall Obama's DACA repeal lamantation on Facebook ran 750+ words. Meanwhile, The Gettysburg Address was under 300 words.

Twitter is the way to get it done nowadays.

Congressional Democrats will never agree to support Trump’s agenda.

It's out there now. I either didn't know or don't remember but we're making sure everyone knows it now and in the months to come.

This however, is different, Trump "giving in" to the left is being pushed by the media. It's one thing to suppress a candidates/politician's interview, quite another to reign in your (media's) propaganda.

I'm looking at this from a different perspective, I could be completely wrong but I'll have to wait and see.

FWIW, Ryan (on McCallum last night) seemed to, without naming names, lay the blame on the Senate, arguing that the House has done its job in advancing most of Trump's agenda.

I'm no fan of the Speaker, but there does seem to be an element of truth to what he's saying.

As flawed as it was, the House version of the Obamacare "repeal" was wrapped up in May, as one example.

The useless party is worse than useless.

And they seem to be fine with being useless, as they are essentially taking away the voices of a large portion of the population (mostly conservative) by being this way. The GOP needs to be changed or replaced, one of the two - the moderates running the party are running it into the ground.

They have now been exposed as fake conservatives after the failure to support any major conservative legislation. That’s the difference now. They are much more vulnerable.

"Look, the voters in their home districts re-elected these RINO turds time and again."

They screwed me now 4 years ago, and took out Bentivolio and gave me Trott, because Ken wasn't EGOP, and now I got this laggard. Bafungul, I'll vote for some Independent or Libertarian again, 6000 of us did last time and I hope the numbers grow, I will not pull the lever for Trott...
