Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. “If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, we’ll gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... “If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail — it’s a secure shelter.” Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

I don't claim to be psychic, but the first day I heard about Irma, I told my wife I had really ominous feelings about this one. Just something about the name alone scared me.

In 1995, my wife and i were in Cary, NC, 95 mph was scary...oak trees fell on out townhouse complex, 15 of them or so, in the dark...just 95!...
The house shaking, and the sound of trees falling never leaves you. I kid you not, and that was the left side of the storm...the eye passed in About 30 mins..we got the right side, stronger, but in daylight...there were no trees left to fall! The eye was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky.

Yes, was a Euro run, several others do a loop, a bunch of others as well. Way too early to tell. My concern was Irma (L to the left) going a little more west into FL and out through Jacksonville. There is a Canadian high that was factored in. Might not be as strong when Jose does that supposed loop.
Welcome to FR. I'm in northern Minnesota and understand about winter storms. But I've never been in a winter storm that I thought was life or property threatening. I feel really bad for these folks and can't imagine what that might be like.

the ones who were on the news were a young woman with brown hair and her new husband with sandy blonde hair. I dont watch tv but have been looking at news of Irma. Prayers they get out of there and the others too. A honeymoon they will never forget.
site rep from other sis: she came to miami to attend a funeral, left yesterday, almost back home to NC. Reports the traffic was and is still very crazy, horrible, in her words.
She tried to get mom to come back with her, no dice.
Update on nephew. He is being admitted to Miami Childrens today. Mom and boyfriend will stay in room with him for the duration. Thats the best they can do for serious need patients.They will ride it out in the hospital.
Did you see any unusual birds that blew in with the storm, caught in the eye? That happens fairly frequently.
That IS what’s happening; God is calling us to turn TO Him and from sin. This is not judgement but it is the clarion bell.
They are re-insured for catastrophic lose (Insurance companies are insured). Then the Gov. generally covers the re-insurance companies if they start going down. All ready been a bad year for losses. Not that into omens, that eclipse seems to have brought calamity, and we’re not done.
Then they should move to the south side of the island. It’ll be in the lee of the wind. Find a place no lower than 20 foot elevation.
If the hotel is concrete even the shell’s interior, stairways, etc. are better than out in the open somewhere.
Do they have satellite phones? How is information supposed to reach them. I don’t see how cellular is working after Irma.

The time to prep for this stuff is before it hits. But life gets in the way. It doesnt take but once through this scenario to hit the target home. Much Prayers for everyone. Its been a crazy few weeks and more to come.
